Bottle split at RB Best Hotel Lobby Share, post festival, 31/01/16.
Rich amber with a decent off white cap.
Nose is dark fruit rinds, fruit loaf, light fart, red grape must, wooded tones, toffee.
Taste comprises sweet and sour licks, dates, figs, plummy depths, vinous, caramel melt, toasted brown sugar.
Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a boosty rise.
Average stuff to be honest ... lacks depth and cohesion. jbruner (5122) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - MAR 30, 2017
Pours a hazy brownish purple from the bomber with bubbly tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma of booze and sweet grape notes. Taste is like grape juice and nice barleywine, a little weird. Welch’s grape juice with booze. Johnsense (1734) - - FEB 25, 2017
Amber pour, smaller white head. Fairly sweet aroma and taste, caramel, grape, fig, dark fruit. Medium body with very soft carbonation. punkska101 (2136) - Chambly, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 4, 2017
Bottle shared by Seb A: caramel, light butter, grape juice. App: hazy dark copper sparing beige head. T/p: med body with med bitter finish. Soft to moderate carbonation. O: I’m not a big Funky Boudha connoisseur but this feels a bit amateurish against what I’ve tried from this brewery before. That grappy aroma isn’t something I dig at all. 22 oz bottle poured. Much thanks to Keven for the share. A shadow filled reddish copper color with a patchy head. A nutty malt, and juicy wine like grape aroma. Flavor is a sweet and bready malt, followed by a massive grape juice. Very impressionable. I miss Florida. A top tier unique barleywine. Not bad overall. A very fun beer. Pretty good. riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - OCT 27, 2016
Big nose of dark pitted fruit and grape as well as a good dose of sugar and honey. Interesting perhaps a little tobacco. Pours auburn, thin beige head settles to a ring. Flavor of a ton of dark fruit - grape, red apple, honey and brown sugar. Lingering grapes, viscuous body, hides the 10.5% pretty well. Interesting beer. Bomber shared with Seb and Guylaine. Aroma: intense grape, bubble gum, medicinal syrup, light caramel. App: clear dark red and copper, minimal white head, nice lacing. Taste and palate: medium body, medium high sweetness, lots of grapes in mouth, moderate high carbonation with a sweet finish. Overall: hum, where to start. This is meant for grapes lovers. I’m almost forgetting this is a barley wine because of how much the grapes is present. Not something I could drink alone for sure. Thanks Seb for sharing this beer that is not a BDM but unfortunately it’s not really that good too. My biggest disappointment from FB so far. Ibrew2or3 (8808) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - SEP 4, 2016
22oz bomber, courtesy of burg326, pours with a hazy deep copper body that has brown hues and supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up dark grapes, brown sugar and then thin rivers of caramel and molasses with more fresh organic grape notes toward the end of the draw. The taste quickly gets into malt sweetened grape that has a fruity tanginess to it around the edges which helps maintain a counter to the sweetness that is ramping up. To midway wafer thin sweet layers of molasses and caramel are noticed amid the grape fruitiness that is held a few rungs below being on the bright side due to the sweet malty influence. With a bit more age the grape fruitiness might pull back just a bit and soften to allow more malty and reduce sugar complexity to peak through. Still this is a fine sipper. Bottle. Hazy coppery mahogany with a creamy beige head that somewhat fades. Sweet and fruity with some lightly toffee and musty malt, fig, some resin and tannin booze on the palate towards the end, longer boozy finish, moderate+ carbonation and nice body, enjoyable.
