COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Barley Wine is often a name for the beer with highest alcohol level of the brewery. This is also the case with Barley Wine from Fur Bryghus. We have chosen to illustrate this rare type of beer with the picture of one of the rarest finds on Fur. A 30cm long skull from a giant turtle which was found in 1957 by the first leader of Fur Museum, Magne Breiner. It has been named after him "Eoasphargis Breneri". 3468 bottles of this Barley Wine has been made. Strong hop sensation with a vinous warmth and flavor of dark malt, caramel and anise.

Medium deep offwhite head. Clear still reddish brown body. Fruity perfumy anise aroma with caramelly notes. Sweet earthy spicy anise taste with fruity notes. Full-bodied. Mild, slightly hot mouthfeel. Sweetish caramelly sugary anise aftertaste with alcoholic raisiny notes. Quite nice, but the fruitiness is a bit overripe, and the anise is too dominant. Lacking in bitterness. (0.5l bottle, from Fish & Beer, Copenhagen.)

Nice frothy, which is unusual for a barley wine. It smells delicious and welcoming of dark grapes and dried fruit. Lovely vinous taste the grapes, plum and fig. It is a barley which is not as intrusive as a whole, and it suits the great good. It has already gotten a little port wine notes, although it is only 2 years old, so even though it is not as brash as many other barleys, it has nevertheless its own little charm that makes it very appealing.
