Unclear medium to dark amber color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, burnt caramel notes, fruity. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20090703]

On Tap at the brewbub. Fast klare orange braune Farbe, mittelgroße beige Schaumkrone.

Theydon_Bois (19510) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - AUG 10, 2012
Tap at the Brauhaus in Regensburg - 27/04/12. Mid amber in colour with a tan head. Malty, nutty, bready aroma. Mid roasted malt flavour allied to fruits and a modicum of toffee/caramel. A little thin for 5%+ but easily drinkable.

Oakes (17680) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 2, 2009
Hazy light brown. Nutty, breadcrusty aroma, almost like roasted pork. Cocoa and breadcrust character. Probably a shade thin for my taste, it needs more sugars to bring out those tasty dark malts.

MiP (15667) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - JAN 27, 2009
Draught, 5.5% at the brewpub. Weak sour rag aroma. Hazy dark brown colour. Nice stable, creamy light brown head. The flavour is better than the aroma, caramelly, perhaps a hint of butter, but not a problem.

shrubber85 (11408) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - FEB 14, 2010
Tap. Caramel malt and cherry aroma. Cloudy orange-brown color with nice head. Astringent/sweet caramel malt and cherry flavor. Decent body. A nice quaffable beer.

MartinT (9880) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 17, 2014
My Bottom Line:
Plastics and peppery phenols mar this Dunkel’s toasted nuts, leading to an astringent finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the cloudy brown with orange highlights.
-This didn’t taste like it was lagered for very long. Either that, or fermentation went uncontrolled for a while.
-Fruitiness attempts to help drinkability.
-There are so many great Dunkels in Bavaria; hard to imagine this brew doing well there, especially since the server told us that’s how it always tastes...

On tap at the brewpub.

4/VIII/2012 - on tap @ Fürstliches Brauhaus (Regensburg) - BB: n/a - (2012-830)

Clear rusty brown beer, nice creamy very light beige head, pretty stable, adhesive leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: caramel, cookies, dough, some spices, stable, cow fodder. MF: soft carbon, medium body, creamy texture. Taste: bit metallic, caramel, little bready, hint of mocha, some banana, sweet malts, grains. Aftertaste: little bitter, mocha, cow fodder, bit metallic.
