UPDATED: APR 24, 2009 I’ll rate this one for two reasons. It is probably the most inventive brew I’ve had this season. Note by inventive I don’t mean extreme or crazy, but I haven’t encountered a roasty/chocolatey/light bodied lager that is a joy to drink in 90+ degree weather with 90+% humidity after a bike ride. Second, I think beers like this are going to be part of a backlash against the extreme beers that we trade our nuts for...give me creative and tasteful subtlety in a six pack for less than $10.
Aroma is coffee, malt, and lager. Taste is a refreshing combination of crisp lager, bitter/sweet coffee and chocolate, and a slight hops. Mouthfeel is clean and extremely refreshing...by design. Kind of like a mix between a doppelbock (sweetness), mexican lager (body and base), and a modern coffee obsessed stout (aroma and hop balance). This beer is just good. I have no doubt the rating average rating will decrease (its currently at 3.94), but it is easily the best of the style I’ve encountered...and far more interesting than the latest barrel aged imp stout or poorly done sour.
UPDATED: APR 6, 2016 12oz bottle from total wine and spirits. Murky copper with medium white head. Smells of grassy coffee and hints of metallic. Metallic flavor there at first but fades during the session , some roasted light grain notes and medium coffee. Simple finish, decent sweetness. Pretty light and refreshing for a coffee ale. But makes sense given the style combination. wlajwl (6738) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - APR 4, 2016
Aroma and flavor is coffee, malts, mild chocolate and a bitter/medium complex of all of the above finish. andyhwcinc (1884) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 6, 2015
Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home after a Friday work day in an empty nest before a friends going away party. Appearance is an amber brown with a thin off white head. Aroma is rich in coffee with nice caramel / malty undertones, smell is nice and decadent without being too sweet. Taste goes down very nicely, definitely strong in coffee but crisp without being too bitter. I’m really liking this one. Travlr (24277) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - AUG 5, 2015
Draft. Crystal clear golden amber color, tan head. Aroma of toasted caramel biscuit. Big coffee flavor, but both the body and the beery characteristics are preserved. Works for me. johnnymusky (983) - Minnesota, USA - JUL 12, 2015
Strange beer....nose is all coffee....pour is amber...nice little head....decent beer...coffee only on the finish....(#552)....

Pours a clear pale golden color with off-white head. Not much coffee on the nose, a little green bell pepper though; follows onto the palate. Lingering malt on the finish. drfabulous (7783) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - NOV 23, 2014
12 ounce from Binny’s. Thin body. Big coffee taste and aroma. Some malt. No other features of a coffee beer. Decent. keepersj12 (3112) - Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA - AUG 26, 2014
Maybe the best lager I can remember. Pours amber with a creamy head. The aroma has coffee and malt. The flavor has the coffee and malt with enough hops to balance the sweetness. Very creamy on the tongue. Finishes both bitter and sweet, creamy and smooth. Outstanding. Christpuncher (3108) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 15, 2014
Strong coffee flavor and bitter finished. Had a draft at bad apple in Chicagoan. Air is dark brown in color.

Bottle from Pinocchios. Pours a deep amber with a small off white head. Deep rich coffee nose with bits of bread and chocolate. Med body with coffee across the tongue... With layers of vanilla, chocolate, biscuit and caramel. Deep roasted coffee finish with layers of nuts and light chocolate.
