This is our rendition of a Dry Irish Stout, circa 1890. Deep roasted malt is what makes a stout a stout, and years ago the fire of the kiln would have added its distinct smoky flavor during the roasting process. Three Feet Deep rekindles that lost flavor with a small addition of peat smoked malt. At 14.4° Plato, this is not a heavy beer, but you wouldn’t know it as the round and earthy quality of peat fills your senses. Our stout is a return to County Cork and the warmth of the Irish hearth.

Source: 12 oz bottle from local retailer Aroma: Smells like a lot of dry stouts I’ve had in my day. Just a wee bit of bittersweet chocolate comes through to the nose. Quite pleasant, actually. Appearance: For all intents and purposes, this beer is is an opaque black. It pours with a finger’s width of khaki colored head. Taste: Not nearly as bitter as I was expecting. In fact, this stout is quite sweet for a "dry" stout (a very strong chocolate taste to it, slightly lighter caramel notes). Got the lovely malty backdrop I like in a stout of this style, but the unusual sweetness is the star attraction. Palate: Pretty smooth on the palate. Has a moderately thick body to it. None of the flavors linger too long in the mouth. Overall: An excellent offering from Furthermore. The sweetness of the beer was a bit surprising, but very welcome. One of the best dry stouts I’ve ever had.

Bottle: Black....with a small beige head. Smoky molasses, bitter chocolate aroma. Taste is earthy, woody, roasty malts...peaty... Solid....and then some....nicely dry.

Bottle. Oak, molasses, chocolate, roasted barley malt, and dry hay aroma - great. Black with moderate tan head. Moderately sweet molasses, chocolate, roasted barley, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Decent body. A great stout.

12 ounce bottle from Binny’s. Peat and smoke in nose and initial taste. Light chocolate roast body. Ok.

Pours a deep brown with a creamy looking and long lasting darker tan head. A balanced aroma consists of earthy malts, chocolate, peat, lighter coffee, and some smokiness. The taste has plenty of peat with a smokiness that dominates, though it isn’t overpowering. Faint coffee is found as well as some earthy impressions. Aftertaste is a lingering smokiness. A light to medium body, thinner in texture, with some softer, fizzy carbonation. This is a pretty good stout.

(5.4.2011) --> Noten: 12,6,10,3,1,6 - 6,50

Pours a nice deep brown with a solid tan head. Smells a bit smoky, earthy, very much like dirt. Some caramel. Taste is earthy toasted malt, some moderate smoke flavor, and a caramel finish with an earthy bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown and tan head. Delicious roasted aroma and hints of the smoked malt. Very tasty dry stout, the smoked malt adds a great dimension to the flavor. Dry, not too heavy but very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Backlog of ratings. Thanks to someone at one of bu11zeye’s tastings. The smell is malts, roast, toast, and ok. The look is brown to black in color, thinner tan head, and dark. The taste is oily malts, chocolate, sort of smooth, and more roast.

Bottle. Pours dark with tons of roasted malts on the nose. Some bitter chocolate, most roasted malts and a nice amount of peat defines the flavor. Pretty thin palate, solid beer.
