Cask at CBC, Clerkenwell on 27th January 2016. Almost black with diminishing pale brown foam. Rich and intense roasty malt aroma. Luscious roast malt and coffee flavour in-mouth. Aroma: dark grains, light toasted malts, chocolate. Appearance: black, small, frothy, beige head. Taste: medium bitter. Palate: light smoked, slightly watery, dark malts, chocolate again. Cask at Craft Clerkenwell, , Saturday 13th February 2016 Pours dark brown edging to black with a slim head. Some light cocoa touches and milk chocolate a touch of burnt wood. Described as a breakfast stout, this is considerably weaker than many of this ilk, but it is a pleasant stout, though perhaps lacks a little body and is a bit thin. Nose is chocolate, cinammon, light toffee, spice, dark malt.
Taste comprises light cocoa powder, earthy, toffee, baking powder, light fruit esters.
Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close.
Cask at Craft Clerko. It pours black with a decent, bubbly beige head. The nose is bitter - sweet, roasted malt, charred wood, dark chocolate, coffee and some sweet bubblegum. The taste is bitter, charred wood, hard roast, coffee grounds, earth, light ash, peppery spice, liquorice mild acidity and umami with a lingering charred wood. Light - medium body and soft carbonation. Pretty flavoursome for the abv. Decent gear, especially the aroma. Taste is a touch dry, but not bad. Grumbo (4114) - Ipswich, Suffolk, ENGLAND - FEB 5, 2016
Cask at The Craft Beer Company, Hatton Garden, London EC1. Pours almost black with bubbly tan colour long-lasting head. Aroma is of light roasted chocolate malt, accompanied by light spice and floral notes. High level of roasted bitterness to taste, with light sweetness, and stronger level of floral, heather and cinnamon developing. Body is light/medium, texture fairly thin but smooth.
