Anchor Steam ale, brewed at the Anchor Steam Brewery is the defining example of the style and since I, US Steve and Young Phil have all visited this brewery (albeit a decade apart) we decided to pay homage to the famous ale/lager beer with our very own interpretation. Common Conspiracy, is an amber ale with a gentle, sweet hop aroma. It starts off beautifully malty before the German grown Northern Brewer hops kick in and lend a refreshing long bitterness.

[email protected] Beer Festival 2012. Ambery nut brown colour with a minor off-white head. Aroma is fruity, mild toasted notes, some earthyness as well as quite nice maltyness. Flavour is bigtime maltyness with some earth, mild floral notes as well as some wooden and resiny notes.

Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Clear nut brown. Fruity and roasty. Light-medium bodied and mid dry with clean rounded mouthfeel. Slight ash in a heavily resiny finish. Rather edgy.

Leighton (20170) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 27, 2011
Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Clear, rich gold with a sudsy head. Baked, toasted malts on the nose, whiffs of grass and earth. Lightly sweet, toasty, with a strong bitterness of grass, wood and dank, too-ripe oranges. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Hops linger in the finish, pretty dry, not to sweet, crispy malts. Nice beer.

Cask gravity at Planet Thanet BF 09. Given how good the Dark version was, I was so excited about seeing this. Beautiful clear pale chestnut, lasting bubbly beige head. Some leafy hop on aroma, but not as hoppy as I expected. Good toffee in mouth and then really quite bitter on end. Not as good as the Dark. Hoppy on end, but more bitter than flavoursome.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Reading Beer Festival on 28 April 2011. Gingery amber colour. Excellent condition. Some decent tart, spicy hops here. Mouthfeel is quite mellow though. Easy drinking and pleasant. Wouldnt have spotted as a California Common though.
