Draft sample at In De Wildeman during Carnival Brettanomyces 2016. Amsterdam, The Netherlands. 24.06.2016. Taste with Ogi and Aart. Pour it hazy golden color with small white head. Aroma orange, some grapefruit, buttery little bit. Taste orange juice, orange zest quite aggressive, not brett for me. Alengrin (6007) - BELGIUM - AUG 24, 2016
At GBF - a ’Bretted’ IPA (not so far-fetched as a concept, but I still have to meet the first one that really impresses me). Cobweb-lacing, moussy, off-white head, hazy orange blonde robe. Fascinating aroma of moldy orange, stale sweat and wet leather (indeed ’Bretty’!), redcurrant, fermenting plums, hay, grapefruit peel, white pepper. Crisp, fruity onset, softish carbo, orange peel freshness, peachy hint, supple caramelly malt body, bitter finish, deeply tonic water- and grapefruit-like while at the same time retronasally floral and peppery pairing quite well with the leathery Brett effects. An interesting hoppy Brett ale to cellar I think - perhaps not unlike Orval?
