The laws protecting the brewing of kolsch are as strict as the German Purity Law of 1516. Kolsch beer can only be brewed within the city of Cologne. As the best-known kolsch brewery, Gaffel’s flavor is derived from an ale yeast that is "lagered" (or aged) in cold cellars. Gaffel is pale, faintly fruity with a crisp, hop finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or digestif.

kramer (6905) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 20, 2017
Bottle. Pours a clear light gold body with a nice one inch frothy white head. The nose is mostly pale malt with a light hint of noble hops and a slight metallic note. The flavor is pretty similar, a little on the sweeter side with a slight cereal grain note on the finish. Very light bitterness, and light bready maltiness. Light bodied with soft fizzy carbonation. Decent beer, better than many American attempts at the style.

mikske79 (1730) - Puerto Plata, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - FEB 15, 2017
Veel schuim, lichte blonde kleur. Geur van een typische pils. De smaak valt mee, niet veel speciaals.

Foerdifuxx (415) - Franconia, GERMANY - JAN 27, 2017
Clear golden beer with a small, shortlasting, white head. Aromas of fug, faint hops, pale malt, grain, straw. Taste is waterish, some malts and some spicy hops, white pepper in finish. Oily texture, average carbonation, light body. Crisp but boring.

venom666 (1079) - Elche, Alicante, SPAIN - DEC 12, 2016
Clean golden color with barely white head. Aroma is malty and grainy, spicy and herbal hops are also present. Taste follows the nose, bread, grain, sweet malts, honey and slightly citrus.

katrinaez (2248) - norristown, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 11, 2016
For a kolsh, this is really good. I mean, on the level of an American beer style, but has more malts and a nicer style. tap.

OminouSC2 (901) - Mora, SWEDEN - DEC 1, 2016
Clear pale yellow color, large white head. Aromas of malt, herbs, bread and slight yeast. Malt taste with bread, slight spice and medium bitter finish.

BlackBeerPG (894) - Darien, Illinois, USA - NOV 30, 2016
Taste: crispy cracker-like, slight hop, clean finish. Fermented grain nose. Gold, clear, with large foamy head and some lace to taster glass. Medium/lite body.

Michael27 (2365) - Berlin, GERMANY - NOV 15, 2016
UPDATED: NOV 15, 2016 Frisch vom Hahn im "Em Höttche" in Bonn. Ein Kölsch halt, das seinen industriellen Hintergrund nicht verbergen kann.

Ritzn (1808) - GERMANY - NOV 14, 2016
Clear golden with almost no head. Aroma is wheat, some fruity like malts (no real fruit aroma though), noble hops and something unpleasant that resembles cigarette smoke. Taste is somehow artificial malty sweetness, with lots of slightly aggressive sourness and some bitter bitterness. Easy to drink, medium finish. Meh...

adamnowek (3308) - Brussels, BELGIUM - NOV 10, 2016
Wheaty aroma with a bit of wet grass. Taste is moderately spicy with a subtle sourness. Nothing special but it does the trick for a platform beer at Köln Hbf.
