COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This deep red ale deftly balances rich malt flavours of toast and toffee with subtle spicy hop aromas and a cleansing bitterness. One of our original brews, this beer makes a great introduction to the enticing flavours of craft beer and is also very versatile for pairing with food.

500 ml bottle from a four-pack from Sobeys Liquor, served in a large lager glass. I love the odd, broad, stubby shape of the voluminous bottle. Pours a deep reddish-amber and a fluffy tan cap, leaving pretty webs of lace. Aroma is comprised of sweet malt, caramel, and somewhat floral/herbal hops. Spicy, too. Flavor has mild caramel and malt, with a broad span of almost pumpkin-like, definitely spicy hops, and a dark cherry wine-ish character. Mouthfeel is a little thinner than expected, and has an overall light dryness. Quite good, but I think more prominent caramel flavor would improve this ale. A minor quibble, though, for a satisfyingly spicy brew, perfect for winter.

On tap at Gahan - deep red with a nice head and a wall of lacing. Detected the caramel in the aroma. Malty taste with a medium body and a smooth finish.

Version 5,3% (1164-020814)
