COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We love stout. We knew we wanted ours to have all the “turned-up-to-eleven” flavours of a New World stout along with the smooth, creamy mouth-feel that only rolled oats can add. Expect an almost-smoky, bittersweet chocolate flavour from a variety of roasted malts, a subtle sweetness from crystal malt, a hint of aroma hops, and a smooth full body.

While vacationing on PEI I went to the Gahan House in Charlottetown where I had this on tap. It poured nearly opaque black with brown highlights with a small spritz of tan head, that quickly dissipates, leaving behind some lacing. Aroma: coffee, chocolate. Flavor: the above with molasses, smoke, oatmeal/lactose (creamy finish). Mouthfeel: medium-bodied. Drinks above its ABV.

Bottle. Dark brown/black colour with tan head. Chocolate malts, roasted coffee, rich flavour. Could have had a smoother mouthfeel for an oatmeal stout but otherwise quite good

2016/09/14 - Pours black with a frothy, khaki head that slowly reduces and leaves minimal patchy lacing. Aroma is roasted coffee, smoky notes, light chocolate, toasted cereal and a hint of licorice. Taste is lots of toasted bread with some coffee roast and hints of semi sweet chocolate. Mouthfeel is light to medium and silky with smooth carbonation and a moderately dry, bittersweet finish. Not too shabby. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at the brewery. Black body, small brown head. Aroma toasted, but not burnt. Some spices. The taste is chocolate and coffee. A bit watery but good!

On tap at the brewer pub in Halifax. This is a very dark and rich stout with loads of dark roasted malts, a touch of char, and more smoke. The Smokey/burnt aspects, however, are not overdone, instead working well with over flavors of the dark grain load. Medium body with light carbonation.

Bottle. Dark chocolate and roasted coffee aroma. Pours black with a small brown head. Dark chocolate and coffee flavours. Creamy texture. Nicely balanced finish with a touch of bitterness. Good stout.

500ml bottle bought by parents in pei and shared with father in law. Aroma: caramel, chocolate, coffee that burned on the bottom of the coffee pot. App: pitch black with medium frothy moka head and some good lacing. Taste and palate: full body, creamy, mineral and bitter finish. Overall: that mineral feeling is quite unpleasant, same for the burned coffee. Glad I shared it. Maybe still too cold too.

Nostalgia and bias are ringing true here. I’m from PEI and have always stated (but apparently have never rated) that this is my favourite beer of all time. Now on to the rating. 500 ml bottle poured at home. Pours black with a tan head that dies quickly. Smells like smoke and a touch of coffee. Tastes like the same: smoke and coffee. While my opinion of this beer has changed over time slightly (more smoke, less coffee than my first impressions), I still love it.
