COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
On a fact finding (beer drinking) trip to Southern California, we discovered an American Pale Ale less dominated by hops, but still with bags of flavour and character. A style we knew we had to recreate here.

Bottle and pint glass. Pours with a thick, foamy head. Lovely dark gold colour. Hoppy nose with a lot of floral scent, grass and pine tree here. The taste doesn’t quite live up to the aroma as it tends to be a bit flat, but what’s there is great - not overly bitter, but tending to the bitter side, rather than sweet. Body is quite light with a fairly thin texture. Quite a good amount of carbonation with a nice aftertaste, but which dissipates quickly. I’m a big fan of Galbraith’s products and this APA is a great addition to their line-up. Do try it.

2016-05-31. Crisp dark yellow body small off white head and lace. 3+ Aroma is mild, light lemon and citrus zest. Flavour is lightly bitter lemon fruit, lemon and orange zest. Average bodied palate, moderate carbonation. Milder than my preference but very quaffable. 7/3-4/7/3/14-15 On tap at Galbraiths, Auckland, NZ.

Ok. Bit weak. A nice drinkable beer but the limitations of the super clean yeast become apparent due to the weak hopping, making it a little dull.

Small head poured from bottle with a nice golden colour. Citrus and fruity aromas and light drinking

Aroma of citrus, pine, some honey. Taste is sweet malt with hint of honey and biscuit, balanced by pithy grapefruit hop character, slight earthiness and lingering bitterness in finish. Good carbonation with soft mouthfeel, reasonably full-bodied. Enjoyable pale ale.

I enjoyed this more than the Galbraith Pils that I finished a few minutes earlier. One word sums this up: Pine. It is not a 1-hit-wonder, as there is a complex and beautifully balanced pine aroma, from spruce to kauri resin. The taste is also in sync with the aroma, so no surprises here. I’m kind of leaning to more subtle hop flavours and this is a good one. I don’t think I’d session it, but will definitely repeat it
