3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewery, review from written notes.
Black body with a mahogany glint in the light. Sticky delicate lacing, long lasting skim. Creamy surface texture to the foam. Roasty, nutty aroma with a similar flavor. Mildly roasty and bitter aftertaste, lightly woody, dark chocolate notes. Smooth. Added to the regular rotation to replace the Fevre River Hefeweizen apparently... why not make both year round?

Tap at Galena. Unfiltered.deep chunky brown. Quite a nice nut brown. Really nutty. Nails it. Not to be missed if you are big into Brown Ales. Rich and sweet. kaser (6312) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 16, 2013
Sweet malts and earth taste. Good nuts and cocoa flavor. Brownish black pour at their brewpub. Tons of foamy white head. Really good BVery (10485) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - APR 21, 2013
Tap at the brewpub. One of the better nut browns I’ve had. Lots of chocolate and nut in the aroma. Full flavored of the same. Nice. jmagnus87 (2912) - Rockford, Illinois, USA - JAN 29, 2013
Draft. Roasty malt with coffee and coco and a little burnt nut. A slight hint of citrus. A very solid beer, but nothign super special. CanIHave4Beers (4184) - Pouring Bus, Iowa, USA - FEB 18, 2012
Pours a deep reddish brown with a small head that leaves some lacing on the glass.

The aroma is nutty with a very strong toasty malt character. The beer is malty and remarkably pungently so. It’s not something that there are a lot of descriptors other for but it’s fair to say that this smells wonderful.
The flavor is nutty and mildly bitter with a little bit of milk chocolate. They’re not kidding when they say nut brown though, it’s a very nutty smelling/tasting beer.
A really nice flavorful brown ale, thankfully this brewery has got it together, the first bottles I had from them were rough but the four beers I tried today were all enjoyable.
(draught at brewpub) very deep brown with generous tan head. Roast malt aroma. Flavor was roast malt, a little nutty, hints of coffee and cocoa. Some earthy hops in the finish. Nearly a porter.
