A mild ale - its as black as stout. Nice aroma, with a balance of subtle hops, bready yeast, dried fruit and roasted malt - spicy, vanilla, cooked apples, etc. Creamy tan head, slowly subsiding, leaving a 1/8 inch ring. Flavor is more subdued with some sourness, pronounced yeast character, coffee-like dark malt, and some earthiness. Finish is a little bitter, a little dry. Could have a richer flavor but decent, with excellent aroma.

Pours a lovely dark ruby red with a fine, staying, small, creamy, beige head. Aroma is rather sweet, light berries, chocolate, caramel and a hint of butterscotch. Medium carbonation, great dry mouthfeel. Flavour has lovely dark chocolate, fine dryness, liqourice, quite malty and full-feeling. Great grainy, malty bitterness and dryness in the finish. Lovely.
