Beyond the Pale, every year a celebration of Wellington’s fabulous Fringe Festival and every year an excellent excuse to brew outside the box. This year’s avant-garde offering is a devised piece with a cast of carrots, orange and ginger with a touch of maple syrup and Galaxy hops. Is it cold pressed pale ale or the morning after and the night before in a glass? Just remember orange is the new amber.
Fringe 2017 - get amongst it
650ml bottle. Pours bright orange with a glorious head. Burnt maple, tropical fruit, some savoury root vegetable stuff, lots of orange, touch of spice. There’s a lot going on and it’s all a bit messy. I guess it’s interesting but maybe a few less flavours would have made the experiment a better test.
Alluring citrus pine aroma in an orange gold pour. Hop forward balance to start with a complex yet subtle mix of orange and ginger carrot cake with a laid back finish. An excellent example of the ’out-there’ beers that make Garage Project a local (NZ) gem.
650ml Bottle. Pours a murky orange. Subtle nose with noticeable hints of fruit. Medium body with initial fruit flavours again. There is a mild spice note hidden. The smoothness of this beer is what got me.
