COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This has been one of the most challenging Garage brews to date. At its heart was the idea of combining aggressive, high citrus character of American hops with the heat and sweetness of Indochine flavours. Have you ever tried a Vietnamese mango and chili salad? If you haven’t you should. It could be life changing. It’s an idea that has been rattling around the Garage consciousness for a while and the Great Australasian Beer Spectapular seemed like a fitting opportunity to give it an outing. It was always going to be a challenging brew to pull off – mango, chili, Vietnamese mint and lime juice aren’t exactly conventional ingredients. Don’t bother checking, they aren’t listed in the Reinheitsgebot. Add a lavish addition of Chinook, Centennial, Citra and Amarillo hops, a deadline launch for an international beer festival and take it straight to a 2000 litre batch without any chance for small scale testing and you get what could have been a recipe for spectacular, monumental disaster. The idea of trying to bring all these flavours together in a coherent way given the pressure of time and prospect of public humiliation was, frankly, shit scary.

Can at a tasting. Packed witch rich juicy aromatics and flavours - citrusy, fruity, spicy, resiny. Loads of hops, also high bitterness. Finishes with a very light touch of chilli. Great beer.

Orange pour. Pine resin, grapefruit and mango on the nose. Light chili & lemon-lime (more in the aftertaste than anywhere else). Smooth, cool experimental ipa.

such a good DIPA. Citrus mango flavours mixed with a hint of lime, coriander and chilli. A earthy yeasty body and smells of a garden on pour. Complex and delicious. This is glorious!

tmoreau (4631) - Lombard, Illinois, USA - NOV 23, 2016
Shared bomber poured to snifters, showing a clear, amber color, with a modest layer of soft white head foam, and spots of lacing. The nose was quite dank, with hints of earthiness & vegetable, sweetness, and a melange of fruit notes as orange, grapefruit, stone variety, and tropical mango. Light to medium bodied, with fair carbonation, the flavor was similar, but less expressive than the aroma, with some tartness & tanginess, and any chili influence probably hidden & muddled among the earthy & vegetal hints. Okay IPA, but fell rather short of the anticipatory description, and other high marks, imo.

Aroma; citrus, grapefruit, wooden malts, resin, herb squares. Look; off white head, misty dark red-orange body. Taste; wooden malts, nice leafy hops, wooden resin, herbal malts, and a warming oily finish. Feel; solid body, soft natural carb. Overall; very tasty. They really have something goin on in NZ.
