The arrival of hops to the brewing scene in England in the 1500’s led to a moral panic. Hops were condemned as a “wicked and pernicious weed”, one which would lead to the erosion of social and moral standards. Thank goodness they were right. Here’s hoping that our homage to the original pernicious weed continues this gradual decline. Organic Rakau and whole cone Nelson Sauvin go head to head in this strong, golden, hoppy brew. Bitter, yes. Intensely hoppy, absolutely. Too much, never.

This was delicious. A pretty strong aroma of both malts and hops - a battle. The flavor is quite hoppy, just the right amount of strong.Quite nice stuff.

330 ml can bought at HK Brewcraft in Central.

Looks: Cloudy hazy amber honey with a misty yeast particles; Half finger head with soapy white foam which fades in 40 seconds; Good sticky lacing with barely notable slight carbonation.

Aroma: Very fruity fragrant and sweet Ale malt, with strong passion fruits, apricots, canned peaches, mango pulp, light cat piss, floral, sugar, light spices, light pine and strong fresh grass.

Taste: Medium sweet rich Ale malt, with strong grapefruit, strong apricots, strong fruity tartness, light mango, strong floral, fair molasses, strong pine, strong resins, spices, strong herbs, biscuits, yeast, strong lemon, strong bitter hops and fresh grass.

Body: Full body. Oily and oozy palate.

Mouth Feel: Very rich Ale maltyness in a thick background, slightly sluggish. Full-on hoppy attack with strong grapefruits, apricots and mango undertones plus notable tart fruits. Strong floral with nice sweetness. Spicy, very piney and herbal with strong lemon to round. Tasty and solid!

Hoppiness: Strong passion fruits, apricots, canned peaches, mango pulp, light cat piss, floral, light spices, light pine and strong fresh grass in nose. Strong grapefruit, strong apricots, light mango, strong floral, strong pine, strong resins, spices, strong herbs, strong lemon and fresh grass in taste;
Bitterness is strong and herbal for a lasting, high astringent bitter-sweet malty finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Piney citrusy and strong bitter to mouth.

Comments: At first, its aroma is a bit low key but the more you sniff, the more pronounce and rich fruity it gets. Taste is just as impressive with strong grapefruit, pine and tropical fruits to complement the nice sweet Ale malts. This is not one of those strong-for-strong-sake IIPA and I like it a lot!
