The arrival of hops to the brewing scene in England in the 1500’s led to a moral panic. Hops were condemned as a “wicked and pernicious weed”, one which would lead to the erosion of social and moral standards. Thank goodness they were right. Here’s hoping that our homage to the original pernicious weed continues this gradual decline. Organic Rakau and whole cone Nelson Sauvin go head to head in this strong, golden, hoppy brew. Bitter, yes. Intensely hoppy, absolutely. Too much, never.

Can 33 cl. Pours a hazy golden with a small, lacing white head. Heavy cat pee aroma. Rich, malty body, very fruity, massive hop load but not so sophisticated, raw, green and very bitter. 281116

On tap at Lama Dog with Patty, Andy and Kara. The beer poured amber and cloudy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had citricness, grapefruit and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavors were grapefruit, pine, malts, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter.

Overall: Sweet bread, bitter seeds and peel. Some tropical fruit jam.
Note: Can 330 ml at home. Reviewed 2016-10-20.

Bottle. Pours murky golden with a small, white head. Aroma of lemon, lemon grass, citrus flowers, peach, sugar and caramel. Very layered. Fine palate, medium body, sticky. Quite lively and a long, long bitter finish. Flavour is heavy on the bitterness, it sticks to the side of the tongue. Superb beer.

Bottle, 650 ml. A complete, full and in all ways excellent imperial ipa! Replete with tropical and grassy notes, this is a fantastic brew.

Tap at Siren, Rainbow 7 Launch, 17th September 16. Pours an straw yellow, clear. Aroma is grapefruit, pith, dank, tropical. Taste is clean, full on hops, grapefruit, dank bitter hops. Really drinkable.

Dredd (938) - Bentleigh, AUSTRALIA - SEP 18, 2016
Interesting. Reading the label, I expected a real skunky aroma. Instead it is a subdued grapefruit aroma. Flavor is big on citrus, more of that grapefruit, ruby, and a massive long bitter finish. Contains the 8%abv with ease.

TEJA (3056) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - AUG 16, 2016
Sampled at the Garage project master class at SBWF 2015. Small lingering white head. Clear yellow color. The most intense hop aroma I think I tried. Sweet light caramel to balance the big hop taste. A fie bitterness in the end to balance everything out.
