A 650ml paper wrapped, stickered and string tied bottle. Bottle 1131/8500. Annoyingly, there was no clear best before or bottled on date. Poured into a Chimay goblet glass. It was a lightly hazy golden orange colour with a half finger white head that dissipates fairly quickly while leaving some lacing. Aromas of honey, pear, flowers (which I will assume is elderflower since I do not know what that smells like), apple skin and light pepper. Tastes lightly sweet, honey, light caramel, pear, apple skin and flowery with some alcohol on the finish. Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall this was ok, but not close to being among my favourite Tripels. I prefer fruity over flowery, and all good Tripels can hide their alcohol well, which was not the case here.

Floral sweet and extremely enjoyable change. Overpowering elderflower makes the Belgian yeast very quiet. If you like elderflower and something different then this is for you.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2017 650ml bottle. Aroma is all honey and elderflower. Taste is admittedly the same, but so strong and without any sign of beer. Honey to start and then elderflower washes everything away. I want to taste the underlying tripel, but there’s just elderflower. It’s not unpleasant, just needs to be better balanced.

Bottle (63 cl) from Systembolaget. Shady golden, meidum white head. Elderfloewrs upfront, pretty intense alcohol aroma dominates thereafter. Medium to full bodied, medium carbonation. Semi dry, medium bitterness.

650 ml bottle. Clear golden body with a small white head that settles to a cap. Aromas of baked apples, pepper, flowers, cinnamon, lemon and oak. Taste is prickly peppery spice at first before a firm lemon zest bitterness kicks in. Gentler flavours at the end with apple, honey, sourdough bread and woody notes washing through. Clean finish leads into a spicy aftertaste. Thankfully the elderflower aspect is restrained, but there are some big flavours going on here. Interesting but still recognisably a Belgian style tripel.

Loads going on and not in good way. Hugely fusal acetone and sour perfume in the nose. Flavours not much better. Sour pears, thin, no sweetness or subtleness. Shame
