COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Launched and enthusiastically received at the first annual Halifax Seaport Beer Fest in August 2007, this ale has quickly become known as the hoppiest beer in Atlantic Canada! Imperial Pale Ale is a robust, medium bodied west coast style ale with a lingering hop bitterness complimented by a malty caramel backbone and a strong citrus character. This beer is for the true hophead! Appeared on cask dry hopped with Comet Hops as Comet IIPA.

Bottle from the NSLC. Resin and pine aroma. Sticky resin pine and citrus taste. Bitter finish. Not my favourite IIPA, but it’ll do.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy, orange hued body that turns a deep brown as the rest of the bottle is poured. Murky and hazy as an unfiltered beer should be. Big 3 finger head sits atop. Smell: Citrus, pine and a healthy dose of hops that aren’t forceful but nice. A little sweetness in there also. Taste: A good hop bite though not as strong as it might have been. Ripe grapefruit with an earthen feel to it. A little mellow in taste with a certain spice-like feel in the finish. Though not as aggressive as it should be, i found the taste quite enjoyable regardless. Mouthfeel: A nice lasting bitterenss that is felt everywhere in the palate and lasts long after the sip. Good carbonation with a solid body. Good balance between astringency and smoothness.

BlackHaddock (7346) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - OCT 28, 2016
Bomber between four at the 25th Oct 2016 Shrewsbury Beer Share. One of a box Mat and I traded with Duffman. Cheers mate. Poured a misty amber, small off-white topping. Aroma was caramel first and foremost before the piney hops kicked in. The taste was also semi-sweet caramel with plenty of piney hops on top. My thoughts ran to marmalade at one point, so there must be some fruitiness in there somewhere too. I liked it.

Bomber @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Oct 16. From trade with Duffman. Many thanks! Pours a deep amber, small off-white head. Aroma is prominent caramel, pine and sweet malts. Taste continues with a big caramel malt presence and vibrant resinous hops. Not my preferred style of DIPA, a bit too malt-laden, but I can appreciate this.

Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a combination of onion and citrus with a sweet grain backbone. Flavor has sweet grains, sweet citrus and a touch of resin with a hint of onion underlying.

Tranquillity (2339) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 7, 2016
Draft at the brewery. Golden body, clear and the color of a whisky. White head with small bubbles. The aroma has cola, wood, nuts. The taste is nuts and grapefruit.

3.3
Bierdimpfe (640) - Quebec, CANADA - SEP 1, 2016
Veiled dark amber color with tons of subtle activity. Creamy beige/orangy 2 finger head, lasting around 15 to 20 minutes, with very good legs. Aromas of fresh flowers and citrus. Flavors of orange, tropical fruits, lemon, pine, caramel, slight ester, floral and herbal spices. Strong grassiness with a burnt sugar feel. Smooth and slick medium body with nice carbonation. Strong and long finish, ending with a harsh spicy piney lingering tongue coat feel. Overall this is a good craft boosting interesting tasty flavors, while overly spicy. Slightly stale, boozy, and missing some freshness. Well balanced though.
