COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Heavily roasted malts and full bodied taste characterize this darkest of traditional brews. Martello Stout is uncompromisingly bold like the unique towers which defended our early maritime shores.

A smoked malt aroma with a hint of caramel and coffee. Pours a dark black color with a tan foamy head that dissipates quickly to a lasting thin head. Taste is smoked malt and licorice feel is thin and the finish a watery smoked malt.

Rating #2361 - 2016.03.02 - Bottle from @beerblast. Dark, dark brownish copper poor with a weak tan foam that bubbles away super quickly. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, and caramel. Taste is roast malts, with a hint of caramel sweetness. Carbonated mouthfeel for a stout, but finish is dry, quite bitter,

UXO (1896) - CANADA - FEB 12, 2015
Pours clear brown with one fat finger of loose tan head, good retention and spotty lacing. (3/5) Nose is muted, roasty malts, cocoa, oats, slight smoke. (6/10) Taste is mild sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Medium body tending to watery, moderate to low carbonation, off dry bitter finish. (3/5) Not terrible, but not great, either. The body could be a little fuller, and the smokiness comes across a little less "smoked malt" and a little more "cigarette butt in your beer", and the finish tends a little to the astringent. Not their best. (12/20)

Opaque black. Beige head that quickly subsides. Malt, light roast, caramel, and chocolate milk aroma. Mid bodied, creamy, and dry. Roast, malt and chocolate flavour. Light and meek. Lacks pungent aromas and taste.

Pours fairly black with a medium tan head. Light nutty aromas, some chocolate, light coffee. Rather thin texture, with a fizzy carbonation, not what i’m used to in a stout. Taste isn’t anything out of the ordinary, it’s not bad, but tastes more like a brown ale.

(1175-070814)
