3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 14, 2014 Hazy orange/copper with a small off-white head. Aroma is heavy on the oak and bourbon with subtler notes of vanilla and cherries. Flavor is complex but the oak is fighting at the front with berries and booze behind it. Good, but very boozy and unbalanced.
This has been sitting for a while. 2010 Still great. Pours dirty brown cola with small carbonation in the pour but settles out. Aroma is sweet caramel and toffee with raisin and grapes. Taste is still a little alcohol burn but it is very smooth and blends well with the raisin, grape and a little fig. Caramel and toffee sweetness. Really nice beer. Bottle - Vintage 2011 - Sweet caramel and some oxidization. Clearish Amber with an off white head. Nice sweet caramel malts and long finish with some nice cherry notes. Very English style. AgentAle (1807) - Alberta, CANADA - AUG 8, 2016
Aroma is sweet malts, honey, lemongrass, caramel and yeast. Taste is sweet malts, caramel, toffee, and tartiness. Some warm puckering sensations follows until end. Appearance is a clear bronze with a medium head that retains quite well. This beer is quite taste and smoth given the abv. Metalchopz (3474) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 16, 2016
2015 Limited Release with 11.5% ABV. purchased at the brewery on my 2015 trip to Nova Scotia. Pours a hazy amber-orange colour with a beige head, good retention and creamy lacing. Rich caramel malt aromas with some dark fruits, hints of nuts and grassy hops. The hops really show in the taste with some nice bitterness, creating a dry finish. The fruity, sweet malts are hidden by this. Pretty good, if you prefer a hoppier Barley Wine. MartinT (10037) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 21, 2015
My Bottom Line:
jackl (8297) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - SEP 8, 2015
Dried cranberries, strawberry jam and light aniseed angles are met by potent coniferous hops and their salient bitterness in this voluptuous Barley Wine.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A generous head of foam sticks to the generous reddish amber.
-Mouthfeel is perfectly carbonated, effervescence lifting the residual sugars admirably.
-Alcohol heat graces each sip.
-Resinous hop bitterness is probably overzealous at this early stage in the beer’s evolution.
-This was probably too young still. Another year or so on it and it will surely become world-class.
Bottle split with Deyholla. Thanks for the Nova Scotia tick! Deep reddish pour with a small off-white head. Caramel, red apple and toasted biscuit. Some hot orange marmalade and booze. Rich. Taste is similar. Hot and sweet, sure, but this doesn’t lose the plot. Caramel and light woody bitterness. Hints of pepper keep things interesting. Substantial without feeling flabby. Actually pretty nice. deyholla (12033) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - AUG 14, 2015
Bottle. Pours a near clear deep amber with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a light sweet grain note with a bit of bread and a hint of light fruit and caramel underlying. Flavor has a good amount of sweet grain and toffee with a touch of biscuit and caramel supporting. DomD (307) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA - AUG 2, 2015
2015 vintage, poured from bottle. Aroma of butterscotch, caramel, and herbs. Pours a cloudy red with minimal off-white head. Taste that seems to be a mix of sweet and bitter. Full bodied, with slick texture, average carbonation, and a bit of a bitter finish. A really nice brew, wish I had bought a second for cellaring. gnoff (10807) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JUL 8, 2015

Also my first Nova Scotia tick!
Sweet, malty, rich, complex taste. Rich, full mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Sweet, toffee aftertaste. Sweet, raisin scent. Hazy dark brown color, tan to light brown head.
This is a great barley wine. Pours a beautiful autumn red. Aromas of big toffee and caramel, wet dog, sweet grape kool-aid. Flavours are vinous, big sweet caramel and toffee but a great boozy hoppy finish. Great barley wine by these folks.
