500ml bottle from 2011. Hazy mahogany with a creamy biege head. Toffee, oak, scotch, some vanilla, sweet and somewhat roasted malts. Moderate body and carbonation (although almost too much carbonation), nice sweetness and a warming booziness. Like this a lot and was not expecting too - would like more!

2012 edition. A reddish copper ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with light vinous notes, treacle, light bourbon barrel notes, woody notes, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with light vinous notes, treacle, light butterscotch, alcohol warmth, very nice. Bottle at Chuck and April’s Cellar Tasting.

Bottle at CapFlu’s Blomster Bash
Cloudy amber color with small head. Nice malt aroma with apfelschnaps hints, fruity, raisins. Full bodied, nice malt and caramel flavor, moderately sweet, with strong raisin flavor, and hop resins. Very nice.

Fig nose. Very malted nose and slightly breast. Very sweet. Fig and burning alcohol. Nice.

I was excited about this, even more than the regular fog burner. You really taste and feel the alcohol in this barley wine. You get the vanilla and caramel, but also a lot of vinous taste to. Not the best aftertaste and also very long lasting. Not an easy drinker this one.

Spab (4225) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 14, 2013
500 ml bottle from Premier Wine and Spirits. Pours a clear orange/amber with small off-white head. Aroma is quite boozy with distinct, slightly vanillaish oak, dark fruits, brown sugar and caramel. Flavour has raisin, lots of oak, light vanilla, candied sugar, caramel and alcohol. Drying finish. Big body.

I like strong beers. I like to be able to taste the alcohol but this one doesn’t quite do it right. Very good but comes off a bit too abrasive to notice the sweet notes.

Ontbeertaster (3208) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 24, 2013
Bottle, pour was dark and a light head, flavour, lots of woody notes, the flavour was pretty smooth and it was quite favourf, pretty enjoyable

mcberko (19837) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 23, 2013
500mL bottle, pours a hazy orangey amber with a small white head. Aroma of sweet caramel, raisins, loads of candied suagar and a bit of the barrels. Flavour is intensely sweet, moderate whiskey barrels, wood, caramel and candied sugar. Quite sweet, but cut down by the barrels, but now this is very boozy. Not very complex. Not as sweet as the regular, but a lot more hot and boozy. Not so great.
