Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

(Bottle) Clear rich amber copper with excellent thick white head. Pleasant interesting aroma, mainly spicy and fruity with some complex notes. Medium body, well carbonated. Taste has a nice spicy bite, perhaps largely from the alcohol, from start to finish. This is overlaid on a nicely balanced mix of subtle toffee sweetness and tangy fruitiness. There’s some bitterness in the finish. Overall a very nice strong beer.

Amber colored beer with a spicy body of malt. Has dryish notes of fresh herbs like anise. Yeasty as well.

Bottle. Deep but reasonably clear amber with a thick off white head that sticks to the glass. Complex aromas encompassing malt, caramel fudge, hints of orange peel, alcohol, macerated fruits and esters. Similar flavours of caramel, macerated fruit, esters and slight oak notes, although the alcohol dominates and detracts.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein leicht trübes bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch fruchtig malzig, würzig, hefig. Geschmack fruchtig süß, würzig malzig.

bottle. Amber with one finger head. Mild malt sweetness and some rather bland spicing. Doesn’t really seem to go anywhere. Light alcohol.

Draft at Eulogy. Difficult end of the keg pour that ultimately became a clear amber with a large lasting off-white foam. Soapy lace. Amber brown fruits. Lightly toasted caramel. Feels like a mild Trippel. Does not stand out for me.
