COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Unfiltered.
Gavroche was a generous and rebellious Paris urchin and a character in the Victor Hugo (1802-1885) novel “Les Misérables.” It is also a strong, amber beer, where the flavour of its top-fermentation yeast combines perfectly with the taste of the special malts. Fermented again in the bottle, the Gavroche beer should be served with care between 10 and 12°C.

[1 year after the exp. date] </br>Cloudy brown-amber colour, too much carbonation. Malt nose, nuts. Good malt taste, too much alcohol, liquorice; warming. Ordinary palate. Doesn't age well, and gets some Madeira character.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2015 33cl bottle from Auchan. Amber colour with thick beige head. Toffee malt. Drying hop on finish. Not too strong tasting even given the 8.5% alcohol. Bit grainy in mouthfeel. Fine, just not very excitng 3.0/5. Re rate bottle at Firkin Alehouse. Clear orange brown colour. Malty tasty. It’s a decent amber Flanders ale. Some lager elements some Belgian ale but without the yeast. Tasty.

330mL bottle, pours a cloudy amber with a huge beige head. Sweet aroma of dark fruits, caramel malt and yeast. Flavour follows suit, with a lingering sourness, dryness and yeasty taste. Nice beer.

Hazy amber colour. Yeasty aroma with firm malts, light spiciness. Hazy yeastiness, light maltiness. Not bad, but rather nondescript and overly yeasty.

Bottled (BB 01/2008)
Hazy dark orange-amber color, huge tanned foamy head, lace. Malty, earthy aroma, also some horse blanket. Liquerish palate with the typical bière de garde earthy notes and licorice flavor. Toffeish and slightly alcoholic and metallic aftertaste. I haven’t rated so many bière de gardes but I think this is a good example of the style.
