Golden with tiny white head. Sweet aroma with orange peel and yeasty notes. Sweet fruity flavor with caramel and hoppy notes. Ends dry.

ricke (476) - Malme, SWEDEN - NOV 14, 2009
Serving date: 2009-02-26. Served in snifter. 330 ml bottle with freshness date on the label (best before 2010-01-28). Pours a clear golden copper with a 2 cm off-white head that settles rather quickly and leaves some lacings. A rather sweet smell with plenty of malts and fruits of the forest. Notes of bubblegum. Some mint and earthy aromas as well. The taste has a prominent and rather sweet malt character - a bit caramel-like. Gentle citric notes. Earthy notes, grass and general floral hop flavors. Faint yeast in the background. The alcohol is noticeable and gets more prominent towards the end. The finish has a light bitterness to it, is slightly dry, has a restrained hop character, is slightly metallic and contains a rather big amount of warming alcohol. The mouthfeel is fuller than I had expected, but is still in the medium range. Small lively bubbles, yet it’s still quite smooth actually. This is a good beer, and it drinks easily. Still, it’s not great, and it’s certainly not very interesting. It lacks complex and all in all it’s different flavors are too restrained. I was expecting more from it. However, this was my first bière de garde, so I don’t have many reference points to compare it with. But I was expecting something in the line of a Belgian saison, and even though I can detect some small similarities, this is far from a saison. It’s too clean, too restrained and anonymous. Again, not a bad beer, but I’ll probably forget about it in a while. Serving type: bottle (Copy of old Beer Advocate review)

750 ml. bottle. Shared with Gabe. Pours a medium white head with attractive lacing, over a very slightly hazy, golden (SRM 5) body....nose is very spicy, wiith vanilla, ginger sugar tones dominating.....taste initiallly light malt sweetness, followed by light coriander, allspice, finishing dry, with light hop herbal bite...mouth feel is medium, with alcohol heat to finish, carbonation low to medium. This meets the style, with the exception of the alcohol hot finish. BJCP 6/3/12/3/7

750ml bottle 3/31/10 (Binny’s Plainfield) 42° in snifter-Pours a clear amber with a big off white head. Aroma of yeast, bubble gum. and hops. Taste of the same with a bit more sweetness and malt along with some citrus. This light to medium bodied brew is easy drinking and pretty tasty. Not too shabby.

Styled as a blond, at least on the label, but has a hefty licorice, bitter kick in the palate that pushes it well out of this genre. The alcohol makes its presence felt. Not bad but not great.

Aromas of fruits, yeast and cereals. Medium carbonation. Finish is long and spicy. A good "bière de garde", even if not the best one !

2/5 i mörkhet. Luktar väldigt friskt, fläderligt. Sur, besk och bitter i smaken. Surt men framförallt bitter eftersmak.

Flaska 33 cl.
