2003 vintage. Complex fruit aroma and flavors. I’d like to thank Dberger for showing me that you don’t need a lot of words to rate a beer....I tend to get too wordy at times. hopdog (12953) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 27, 2005
UPDATED: JUN 24, 2006 2002 Vintage bottle purchased off the GLI vintage ale menu. Poured a dark mahogany color with almost no head. Stronger wet leather aroma with light dark fruits. Tastes of sherry, dark fruits, and molasses. Alcohol content well hidden for being above 10%. 6 3 8 4 15
I bumped the scores up a little based on the 04/05 blend tasted at the Iron Hill Reserve Bottle Tasting. PWalk (337) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 27, 2005
Poured into a wine glass at the brew pub the Phantom had me right from the start. The aroma was of fruit but not necessarily dark. Instead it had almost a citrus feel to it. Flavor was sour at first cleansing that palate for what was to come in the way of sweet caramel goodness and alchoholic burn. I meant to grab a growler of the stuff and wax it up for posterity as this beer will one day rule the world if opened. Sammy (12623) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 15, 2005
80IBU, this is a biting hoppy barleywine. Flavorful and sour, reminding me of other wonderful brewing accients like Cuvee de Tomee. Opaque red, chestnut colour, with mocha head. Seductive aroma of musty fruit sourness. Floral, spicey, sharp biting. Shag (3041) - Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA - APR 22, 2005
Poured a reddish brown color. A very sweet flavor with some molasses, raisins, oranges, and cherries. The alcohol is well hidden. The aftertaste is somewhat sour and warming. A good one!

2003... Poured a deep purple color with a thin, light tan head that left no lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, raisins, toffee, dried fruits and port. Taste was sweet and fruity, more toffee and caramel, with light hop bitterness and alcohol in the finish. dberger624 (1028) - Voorhees, New Jersey, USA - JAN 3, 2005
Shared bomber bottle at the brewery thanks to the owner. No name on the bottle. He just said it’s their barleywine and this is the only barleywine listed. This was another good one. Nice sweet malt taste. mkobes (2142) - paramus, New Jersey, USA - APR 18, 2004

This year known as McGlynn's Ghost. Deep orange brown in color, with a thin head. Pear liquor aroma with the sticky smell of malt and hops mixed in together. Sticky malty chewey carmel flavor, with lots of hops to balance it out. Enjoyable sipping brew! lowner (19) - astoria, New York, USA - MAY 13, 2003
I can't believe this was never rated before. Thiswasby far the best beer at the Brookly Split Thy Skull Barleywine fest in 2003 and was at least as amazing at the Inn. This is a true english styled barleywine. Its dark, unbelievably sweet but in my opnion a touch more complex than Heavyweight Old Salty (another no-brainer premier barleywine). As smooth as a 10+% alcohol barleywine could possible be. Awesome!!!!
