Draft. Pours orange amber with a thin head. Sweet malty aroma. The flavor has sweet malts, cheap scotch, and floral hops. A little hot and muddled. Really not that good. adrian910ss (2572) - Doylestown, PA, USA - AUG 12, 2010
On draft at the brewpub. Pours a deep ruby red amber with a small off white head. Aroma of buttery notes, candied malt, and citrus. Taste is much the same as the aroma with a metallic aftertaste. Slipstream (2625) - USA - MAY 12, 2010
On draft at the brewpub. For some reason, I jotted down "Phantome", so I’m not 100% sure this is the same brew - not sure where that spelling came from. Some unpleasant aspects to this stuff - diacetyl and cheap wine sweetness. Seemed a bit like a scotch ale to me, with a bit of prune and plum, and a hoppy finish. OK overall. 750mL bottle, ‘04/’05 blend. Poured near-clear garnety-amber with a nice cap of beige head. The aroma was sour with vinegar and metallic notes leading.. honey, fruit, and a touch of molasses behind.. deeper lines of artificial sweetener and heavy-ish boozage. The flavor found Aspartame laced throughout.. caramel and molasses sugars at the core, picking up tart vinegar and dark fruits as it made its way through the finish.. peppery alcohol, tart fruits, and more sweetener on the warm, but not hot finish. Medium-plus bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. not a great flow through the palate.. I didn’t dig this one, but will gladly give it another shot if opportunity presents itself. General Lafayette the phantom.poured a mahogany brown. Nose is pruney and dusty. Flavor is bold and full with dry fruits and a slight hint of booze. Finish is a bit hot and a tad sweet And boozy.

Mahogany pour w a full off white head.
Toffee, some hot alcohols, lots of sugars maybe a pixie stick. 1FastSTi (3360) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 6, 2010
Thanks Jason for this blended 04/05 vintage. The beer came in a Sponge Bob Square Pants labeled bottle. Pours to a a deep chestnut colored body with a thin whitish head. The aroma is coconut and huge caramel. The flavor has a bunch of sharp bitter malt and grassy hop. Some light toffee and sweet caramel. The palate is a touch hot. Light tartness. Some more age would likely help. afireinside96 (923) - Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 1, 2010
2009 vintage on tap at the brewpub. Cloudy brown color with a thin khaki colored head. Sweet smelling with notes of toffee, butterscotch, grass, and prune. Big chewy mouthfeel followed by a tsunami of flavor. All of the aroma notes were present along with a little chocolate and fig. Oily and coating with a very long finish. This was one very tasty barleywine. kramer (6682) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 21, 2010
On tap, at brewery. Pours a clear dark amber body with a small island of wispy beige head. Big buttery and toffee malt nose, zero preceptable hops. Butterscotch abounds, and it doesn’t work too well for me. The flavor is very candy like and under attenuated with lots of butterscotch and toffee. Light chocolate notes and alcohol on the finish. Very minimal to no hops. Mouthfeel is thick and heavy with minimal carbonation. Rather hot on the finish as well. This one just didn’t do it for me. Too sugary sweet and one dimensional, not to mention the underlying butter issue. alobar (3778) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 20, 2010
Possibly one of the most flavorful barleys I’ve ever had. Pours a reddish copper color wit no head. Powerful and pleasant aroma of caramel and dark fruit. Flavor of dark cherry, caramel and just a touch of hops. Super enjoyable! Great beer!
