3/16/2011: Genesee Ice Beer... Aroma: Flaked cereal grains and sweet corn meal. Appearance: Straw color; uber-transparent and clean; fizzy white head. Flavor: Sweet (but not too sweet) wet grains/corn, straw and hay; a slight bit metallic with the typical skunky edge to it; tolerable, but only because of the sweetness... Palate: Medium-light to medium body with a good amount of heft to the feel; smooth, creamy texture. Overall: Blah... Tick!
One pint can (5.5% Alc/Vol.) from Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #128 for
I poured a 24oz can into a 1 liter boot stein. It was canned on April 16, 2013 and cost $1.16 ($0.05 per ounce).

Appearance: Clear, gold/amber hue. Highly effervescent. Forms a large, white, soapy head which retains for a while but eventually dissipates completely.
Smell: Generic economy lager smell of grain. I’ve smelled worse.
Taste: Beers like Genesee Ice make me wonder what the point of their existence is. If you want to get drunk cheap, there are stronger beers for the same price. And despite the ludicrous marketing hyperbole, there really is nothing "premium" or "robust" about the flavor here. It’s adjunct macro lager as cheap as they come with the taste to match.
The palette starts off surprisingly weak and watery. Nothing but cliché fizzy yellow lager flavor, but weaker than most. Next to no bitterness anywhere in the taste here, which is fine, though I’m not sure this qualifies as a malt liquor proper. I actually do detect a subtle caramel sweetness on the finish, but it’s quickly obscured by a foul taste of cheap, dry graininess. Maybe I’ve built up a tolerance to these types of beers, because it’s not as offensive as other beers of the ilk have been. Still, there’s nothing to genuinely like about the taste. It’s bland, it’s cheap, it’s off-putting, yet there are worse incarnations out there.
Drinkability: I often find "gold sodas" like this tend to be quite bubbly at first, but go flat quickly. But in the case of Genesee Ice, it actually stayed well-carbonated throughout. The liquid itself is noticeably thin and has a slightly slick texture. There’s a starchy, cracker-like aftertaste coupled with that of boiled corn. Even when drank ice cold on a hot summer’s night it’s not really refreshing. At 5.5% ABV it’s too weak to be used as a get-drunk-quick vehicle, and too strong to be a casual, sessionable lager.
Actually pretty good for a macro pale lager. Aroma was decent. Classic shit beer aroma and pretty full. Pour was a nice inviting clear medium piss gold with a one finger white head. Taste was as good as any pale lager I’ve had. Normal shit beer flavor but not as sweet or watery. Thick mouth feel which was odd. No aftertaste. geologyguy (1602) - Columbia, South Carolina, USA - JUN 3, 2013
good medium head...regular cheap beer smell, but taste is of bananas.....much better than I thought it would be...smooth...only a very slightly bitter/bad/cheap aftertaste...good medium dense mouth feel...surprizing! shrubber85 (11402) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - MAY 31, 2013
Tallboy (Genesee Ice @ 5.5%). Corn/barley malt and hay aroma. Golden yellow with large head. Mildly sweet corn/barley malt and hay flavor. Not horrible - would have torn these up in my younger years and at the bargain price of $1.21.

Pounder cans labeled Genesee Ice and list 5.5% abv. Probably the same, likely it is all just scraps lying around the brewery. Old cider and wet leather aroma, sugary alcohol as well. Fizzy medium yellow, dark enough to look okay. Bland sweet taste. Very smooth beer, you can drink it down and it doesn’t bit the same way a malt liquor does. Better than Genny Light...that is all. joebudzjoe (676) - Connecticut, USA - MAY 24, 2013
Purchased a six pack of this from a Stewarts in Plattsburgh, NY for $2.99. Tastes like Natty Ice. Highlight of this beer is its amazing can that contains asexual bathroom sign characters showing what you can do with this beer: slam dunk, play volleyball, fly fish, etc. kramer (6682) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 8, 2013
Can. Pours a clear dark gold body with a one inch fizzy white head that retained pretty well due to the heavy carbonation. The nose is pretty minimal, just a bit of corn and not a whole lot else, maybe a touch of cooked vegetables. The flavor is pretty sad though, bland and lacking in anything positive, it’s mostly water with a slight bit of corn. Light bodied and fizzy with a thankfully short finish. This one could be worse. dwyerpg (6180) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - FEB 16, 2013
Not much aroma. The head is very untasty. The beer pretty much tastes like a super cheap light beer but at least there’s no heavy funk in the aroma. Aegis212 (4) - - FEB 14, 2013 does not count
Very drinkable for an Iced Beer. The smell precedes the actual taste of the beer and leads to a bit of disappoint. Although - it is very drinkable, but really doesn’t distinguish itself from other Iced beers.
