An American red ale well rounded from its malty palate to its clean lightly hopped finish.

Poured up at AZ Strong Ale Fest 2014 where they told me this was an imperial red ale but it very well might be the Red Cat Amber so I’ll put the rating there. It pours with a nice clear deep copper body that has some golden hues and supporting a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up some pine hops mixing with some malts and a touch of citrus. The taste comes across a little thin and drinkable with tasty hops that run from flavor hops right into a decent level of hop bitterness. I’m getting mostly grapefruit as well as a little bit of pine and then a mixture of sweet fruity esters along with some sweet crystal malts. Pretty nice all-in-all with just enough going on to make it interesting amid the light drinkability.

Closer to brown in color, this was the last beer I had on the 4th of July and it didn’t work with all the others. It just felt too malty and little off.

Pint on tap at Barrio Brewery. Copper color, clear, small head burns off. Balanced taste, not too hoppy, which I appreciate. About as good as I’ve had for the style. I liked it quite a bit, especially fresh off the tap.

On draft at The Hungry Monk, light amber-reddish pour with thin off white head. Nose has a light caramel malt and grainy character and the taste is a little toasty. Not bad, but I’ve had much better reds before.

Light amber with a thin head. Light to medium amber/crystal grains make an olfactory appearance. Medium-bodied, a bit tannic and grainy. Bitter-sour finish.

Amber with creamy white head and lace. Light caramel with a hinto resiny hops. Caramel malt and light resiny flavor. Watery and fizzy, but an ok beer.

on tap as part of the sampler pours light amber with a thin off white head. Aroma is bread, toast, little else. Flavor is sweet corn and caramel, ends pretty clean. Eh.

Draft at pub. Quiet caramely malt nose. Wet malty flavor up front with a light spiced hop note amongst toastiness towards the finish.

[Tap] Pours a bright copper color with very little head, but decent lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malts and astringent grains. Sweet and sugary taste is mostly caramel malt driven. Some citrus in the finish. Slightly cloying overall. Light/medium in body. This one was a little out of whack, in my opinion.
