Proud, headstrong, full of character. Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, gave all these attributes to the rebellious Ghent “stroppendragers” or noose-wearers. And what goes for the people of Ghent also goes for this strong blonde beer. Nose/aromas: Relatively complex nose with hints of fruit (banana, citrus fruits), herbs, yeast, honey and sweet malt. Flavour: Refreshing in the mouth, pleasant sweet malty attack followed by hints of herbs and yeast, medium-long finish with subtle, slightly bitter touch.

Sometimes you get those beers that scream belgian ale. And then there’s Gentse Strop, that just sorta mentions it. Which isn’t really a bad thing. The nose is slightly strawy, with a bit of funk. Yeasty, some dried fruits. The smallest hint of banana. Bit herbal. Sweet. The taste is malty, with some sugary sweetness and little bit of a bitterness in the end. All in, not a bad beer. Also not a great one. I need to check this one out again, because I just realised this bottle is a bit out of date.

Pours gold with a large head. Nose shows straw, doughy wheat, light Belgian notes. Flavours include hay, spicy and grassy hops. Crazily high carbonation.

Clear blond body. White frothy head. Soapy, yeasty aroma. Moderately bitter flavour. Quite unbalanced.

Bottle. Yellow with a medium head. Quite sharp slightly sour flavour. A bit acidic and not really my taste but still reasonably drinkable.

Bottle. Somewhat hazy gold with a thick white head that lasts OK and laces well. Floral aroma with nectarines, dough, oranges. Sweet and yeasty/ fruity with a finish that dries out a bit and is moderately bitter and herbal. A bit like an attempt at an Orval knockoff with no Brett. Quite good, refreshing.

Bweurk. Dit is een onwaarschijnlijk flauw bier, met wat hop en chemisch smakende suikers ergens halverwege. Het smaakt zoals het heet: een strop rond je nek.

1,5 l bottle shared. Appearance: Slightly hazy light yellow body, with a rough large bubbly head which leaves some lacing. Aroma: Cirtus, light soapy, some yeast and coriander. Taste: Light sweet,, light bitter, light malts, yeast a bit citrus, apricots and soap and some coriander.. Low carbonation, medium body. Dangerous easy drinker. Nothing rarem, harsh or offensive, simpley said a nice one espescially in big bottles to share with friends.

Not directly a beer I will remember. Good, but not good enough to stand out.

Drinking from a 33 cl bottle. In the aroma hops, citrus and alcohol. The clear golden beer has a medium white head. In the taste citrus, alcohol, some sour. High carbonated.

Skinnyviking (9588) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - OCT 28, 2016
Bottle at home. High fluffy lasting white head. Hazy yellow milky body. Acidic fruity spicy aroma. Acidic lemon clove coriander nutmeg flavor with a fair amount of hops bitterness, high carbonation and a long dry and bitter finish.
