COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewers in the midlands of England would boil their barley wines ales for longer times to intensify their flavors. In making Massive! we used only British Halcyon pale malt and boiled for eight hours, giving the beer a deep ruby color and rich malt flavor. Heavily hopped, Massive! is a beer that can be enjoyed now for its intensity, or after years and years and years of aging.

(Gigantic Massive!) Bottle 650 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 12% Deep red ruby colour on the body, clear, with a small but thick beige head sitting on top, with good retention. Aroma of orange, cookie dough, malts, red fruits, light alcohol, light pine. Taste begins sweet with caramel, cookie dough, malts, turns to mildly bitter with hops, light orane peel and pine, light red fruits ad alcohol in between. Medium thick body with good carbonation, sticky palate. Very good and easy to drink in spite of the high alcohol.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver; 12 oz
Dark mahogany color with barely any head. This is not your typical American Barely wine: aroma and flavor are very "fruity", it’s sweet but not cloying, it’s malty but without heavy toffee presence, fruity caramel, no fresh oak/bourbon/vanilla, not nutty, moderately bitter, with gentle alcohol warmth in the final.
More similar to strong Belgians, such as Stille Nacht pre-2003, than to Barley Wines.
Excellent sipper.

Hopmaestro (1911) - Örebro, SWEDEN - DEC 14, 2015
Aroma is sweet and fruity. Overripe peaches, figs and raisins with a thick toffee sensation. Taste is really sweet and sticky. Dried fruits with an almost vanilla sensation in the back, syrup with a slight grassy bitterness. A fair share of alcohol warmth in the end... well, it was - Massive!!
