Drank from a bottle at the 20th Mondial de la Bière, May 30, 2013. Black, no head. Aroma of smoked malt, spicy herbs and small ripe fruit. Taste of dark malt, a little smoky, notes of grapes, sweet finish. This beer is as funky as the label! Lubiere (14110) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 2, 2013
A dark brown saison with a thin brown head. In aroma, a sweet fruity chocolate with dark fruits, prunes, molasses and licorice. In mouth, a sweet peaty chocolate with caramel, dark fruits, orange peels and alcohol. AirForceHops (7546) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - MAY 21, 2013
Paid$ 9.04 for a 22 oz. bottle from Winooski Beverage Warehouse. Snifter displays a pitch black color with a thin ring of egg shell white colored head. Nose is chocolate, light barnyard notes and an Earthy spice. Taste is mostly the same with light traces of funk and yeast. The roasted malt seems to take over most of the palate. Medium body, light or nearly flat carbonation. It makes me think more of a Belgian stout rather than a Saison. Interesting brew and better than other “Black Saison’s” I’ve sampled. neepsntatties (2019) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 14, 2013
Bottle. Colour...basically black with a thick tan head. Nose...a generalized roastiness with clove chocolate essence. Palate...sweet up front with sharp tang and a bit of burnt sugar and sweet spice. There’s a smidgen of dark
chocolate here and a somewhat milky chocolate flavour that’s reminiscent of a light ganache. A tangy/bitter flavour that’s almost peppery lands of the finish. drowland (8888) - Georgia, USA - APR 28, 2013
4/28/13. 22oz bomber from LOL brothery boi bitbucket (he hangs with Bangs). Deep dark brown pour, almost black, under a small tan head. Banana and esters on the aroma with caramel and a touch of roast. Sweet banana, chocolate, and caramel with a touch of roast. I’m not sure what this is, but I never would have guessed imperial black saison. Not bad.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thick, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, alcohol, yeast, light spices and a hint of caramelised sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt flavour with chocolate, coffee, meat, soy sauce and a lot of nuts/earth in the mix. Aftertaste is quite pungent with the malt and earthiness really coming out, some metal, a hint of sugar and a deep roasted nuttiness. Overall, a strong beer more like a brown or perhaps a light porter and not anything like a saison at all - no herbs, no grassiness, just a hint of yeast. Not my favourite and not true to any of the styles, but it was drinkable of course. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Bottleworks in Seattle, Washington on 11-January-2013 for US$8.99 sampled at home in [the real] Washington on 08-April-2013 a few days before heading back to the PNW. creeped out label .. . deep yellow .. medium head, lacing .. . talk about knocking off the cobwebs .. . clean cut grain and yeast .. . pretty good but nothing to complex, decent .. . . saw a kidnapping today. decided not to wake him up though... Bottle. Pours a dark color with a vanilla head. Nose is roasty with chocolate notes and light vanilla. Palate is slick and oily with a nice dry sticky finish. Flavors of chocolate, with light resiny hops, light vanilla.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger fairly dense tan head with good retention, that reduces t oa thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, roasted malt, toast, clove, pepper, coffee, caramel, raisin, light smoke, and earthy yeast esters. Damn nice aromas with nice balance, strength, and complexity of roasted malt and yeast notes; very roasted malt forward. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted malt, toast, pepper, coffee, caramel, clove, raisin, herbal, light smoke, and earthy yeast esters. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, roasted malt, toast, pepper, toffee, clove, raisin, herbal, light smoke, and earth on the finish for a good bit. Very nice flavor balance, robustness, and complexity; with zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and slightly crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is and damn nice black saison. Very nice balance and complexity of roasted flavors and yeast esters; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering. HenryXXX (205) - British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 9, 2013
Pours a nice dark black with a fluffy creamed coffee color. The nose is licorice, star anis, root beer, and brown sugar. The pallet is licorice, sassafras, cocoa nibs and musky coffee.
