Unusual beer that defies categorization. A stout-like, lower ABV quad, or perhaps a dark Belgian imperial porter. Pours like a stout: thick, dark, and a yellow frothy head. Has somewhat sweet dark fruit tastes typical of a quad, without the Belgian carbonation. Strong malty backbone with a modicum of roastiness typical of a stout. Some lingering alcohol heat, but unusually this adds and doesn't detract from the overall experience. Interested in sampling more beer from this brewery -- they're more Mikkeller than Mikkeller is in willingness to push the envelope!

On draught at Gigantic Taproom 2/16 for Zwickelmania 2013. Deep rock candy and caramel flavors. Mellow mouthfeel hides the alcohol content well. jake65 (3626) - Meridian, Idaho, USA - AUG 6, 2013
Bottle: I can’t believe how impressed I was over this beer... had a disappointing experience with the Time Traveler, but this blew me away. An amber brown pour with a modest beige head, leads to an aromatic nose of sweet Belgian sugars, yeast, berries, and chocolate. Mouthfeel is a nice weight and the flavors come through bold and balanced. Chocolate, faded citrus hops, caramel, yeast, and Belgian sugars again. Some leather too… reminds me of Adam, one of my long-term favorites, albeit a milder interpretation. Really really nice stuff. bhensonb (15096) - Woodland, California, USA - MAR 18, 2013
Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours nearly opaque dark brown with a foamy/frithy(!) tan head. Aroma has a lot of chocolate, but there’s some fruity ester as well. Near full bodied. Flavor has lots of chocolate, lots of dark fruit, and some earthy "Belgian" aspects. Finishes a bit earthy/dirty chocolate, with dark malt and enough hop (I think it’s hop) to make it towards the dry side. This is a tasty, good, interesting and very nearly unique beer. Good on them brewers. douglas88 (9059) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 26, 2013
On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark copper color with a medium off-white head. A big fruity and nutty nose. Dark malts, big dusty yeast, Belgian candies, some heat, berries and massive sweet malts. Finishes dry. Good.

Deep hazy dark brown coloured body with a muddy brown glow and a thick, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, a nice yeast strain, some caramel and toffee, raisins, pit fruits and a bit of chocolate too. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong malt flavour with a lot of caramel and raisin sweetness, some subdued yeast and spice flavours, but a good dense and deep chocolate and earthy malt notes. Aftertaste shows a good complex set of flavours with the sugars and yeast coming through most often. Overall, a nice belgian strong, closest to a dubbel, but a good flavour profile and some nice interesting tastes. Great to try, if you can still find it, grab it! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon on 25-April-2013 for US$8.31 sampled at home in Washington on 23-July-2013. Muddy brown pour. Rich with dark fruits - dates, raisins, some caramel and butterscotch. Alcohol is well hidden. Good body, and complexity. Sweet, but not overly. Enjoyable. mcclainc50 (217) - New York, USA - MAY 10, 2014
Pours a dark amber brown, with a thin light head. Princess, currants, barley and chocolate in the nose. Flavors of raisin, chocolate, barley notes, and some spice. Overall a good Belgian be, doesn’t have the overwhelming yeast notes, let’s the other ingredients come through. mtdewa1 (441) - rome, New York, USA - MAY 10, 2014
Dark red pour. No head or lacing. Aroma is dark, prunes, raisans. Taste is malty. Burnt/ dark chocolate, raisan and some spice. Very different for style but it works. Smooth.
