Amber colored liquid w/ quickly diminishing white head. Heavy caramel malt (expected) aroma and a slightly grassy hop, and even a little toasty. Well balanced w/ toasty and caramel malt with some hop flavor in finish and aftertaste, otherwise pretty clean. Nope, I take that back, there is a diacetyl in the finish as it warms. Also finishes on the dry side. Lighter body and moderate carbonation. Very drinkable, but not terribly complex. Not something I'd seek out, but not bad to have if it's sitting in front of you. mikeben (355) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - OCT 31, 2003
Ok this is very "Macro-American" tasting which is not a compliment when it comes to beer styles. Yet it transends its style by having a good flavor and rich color. Very much like a Killians but a little more bitter. For 77 cents the best cheep beer I have had but would not hunt for it Slick (1969) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - SEP 21, 2003
UPDATED: JAN 18, 2004 Nice dark amber red color, small head that dissappeared fast. The aroma was malty and slightly sweet, with the taste coming in at much the same with a hint of hops and the after taste being malty and semi-sweet.not there best work by far but it's decent and priced right.I have to start making more side trips to New Ulm when i go to the cities. I was very surprised by this beer. Deep red color with medium head and a small amount of lacing. Nice malt flavor with some citrus notes. Finish is somewhat bitter. Nice affordable beer. JonR888710 (999) - Cochabamba, BOLIVIA - AUG 7, 2003
Dark red body with a very thin head, despite pouring hard. Smells of clean malt with a little acidity coming through. Taste is bright, fruity hops mated with a healthy amount of malt that turn into drying pepper and soda water. The most impressive thing about this beer is the malt flavor, indicative of good ingredients. Also, a welcome yeastiness emerges on the palate as this beer warms. Aftertaste is mild. The beer wont blow your doors off with flavor but it is certainly a few cuts above Killians, et. al. (macro-ambers). Also, bang for the buck factor is through the roof ($.79 per 12 oz).

This drinks alwfully dark to be a lager. It looks more like a stout and has the same tannish head when poured. Very malt heavy, but I liked it better than I thought I would. dominion (78) - charlotte, North Carolina, USA - JUL 4, 2003
Not a bad beer from Trader Joe's. Reminds me of a Killians with color. vwsteggie (684) - Paxton, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 25, 2003
UPDATED: JAN 29, 2003 Not much better than Frugel Joe's, but at least it looks nice. I have been pretty disappointed with the Trader Joes brand of beer. bluemeow76 (693) - Lewis Center, Ohio, USA - JAN 14, 2003
Very bland and macro tasting. Amber color, thin head and barely any lacing. Very blah. Dogbrick (12936) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 2, 2003
Another 77 cent beer courtesy of Trader Joe’s. This isn’t nearly as bad as Frugal Joe’s Ordinary Beer, but it isn’t winning any awards either. Pours nice enough, a dark orange with a medium thin albeit quickly dissipating head. Quick lacing. Aroma has a hint of hops. Flavor is fairly bland with a somewhat sour finish, which is too bad because it kept the beer from being solidly average. Don’t bother.
