old school TJ’s beer from back in the day - just filling in backlog. Light malt and toast with little hops presence. Light in body bordering on watery. $1 single was worth while on occasion. vwsteggie (684) - Paxton, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 25, 2003
UPDATED: JAN 29, 2003 Not much better than Frugel Joe's, but at least it looks nice. I have been pretty disappointed with the Trader Joes brand of beer. jasonp (1581) - Ashburn, Virginia, USA - OCT 1, 2004
Pours amber with a quickly disappearing head. Aroma is hardly there, a hint of malt. Taste is moderately sweet with notes of caramel, toffee. Palate was pretty thin. Pretty boring but not foul. Butters (4059) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - NOV 14, 2009
Sampled at maniac’s. Poursa clear pale amber with wispy thin tan head. Not bad on the aroma, kinda sweet malty caramel with a hint of corn in the background. Flavor is caramel malt, but light and grainy. Not all that great. Name is the best thing about this beer. Dogbrick (13018) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 2, 2003
Another 77 cent beer courtesy of Trader Joe’s. This isn’t nearly as bad as Frugal Joe’s Ordinary Beer, but it isn’t winning any awards either. Pours nice enough, a dark orange with a medium thin albeit quickly dissipating head. Quick lacing. Aroma has a hint of hops. Flavor is fairly bland with a somewhat sour finish, which is too bad because it kept the beer from being solidly average. Don’t bother.

Bottle from, where else, Trader Joe’s. A pretty malty smell with a lacing of hop nose. Pours a touch light for an amber, thin temporary head. Some definite malt taste, but the hops I smelled are somewhat missing. Kind of phenolic. Of course for the price, it’s pretty good. IlanMan (1015) - Appleton, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 20, 2008
On tap at beer tent in Winona, Minnesota. Alcohol was lowered to 3.2% which was unfortunate. Aroma was of malt, light caramel, and basically no hop bitterness. Flavor was quite watery with light malt and hop characters. Easy to drink beer but nothing to buy again. Drink a real beer because this is not one. esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 28, 2008
Amber with a medium off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, grain a bit overly perfumed. Taste pf sweet malt, caramel with a mild bitter cola like finish. Kind of watery and astringent. JPDIPSO (6223) - Wauwatosa, USA - DEC 9, 2006
Light copper color with a moderate ecru head. Light caramel and sweet corn aromas, nearly like kettle corn. Once again a very sweet brew. Honey caramel without enough bitterness to reel things back in. Touch of hazelnut in the linger. Otherwise just another amber. BeMerry (39) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - MAY 4, 2008
Bottle. Pours dark amber, small brief white head but nice lacing to the end. Aroma of fermenting yeast. Taste is slightly sweet to start, then metallic with caramel; finishes sour and tarry. Mouthfeel is thin.
