On tap at Gilden im Zims. Golden. Initially very bland, the head is remarkably tasteless! Very ’delicate’ hop character, bitterness gradually builds as you slip down the glass. A very odd style Kölsch, when super fresh like this it is a great session beer, but can’t see this travelling and I’ve never had a bottle I’ve enjoyed even remotely. Maybe you just have to be there...

Cask @ Gilden im Zims. Clear yellow/golden with a medium white head and some lacing. Aroma is slightly sweet with herbal notes and lemony notes. Taste is mild with light sweetness, herbal notes and light lemony presence. Very light body. Medium carbonation. Light "fluffyness" in the mouthfeel. Way better than the ratings suggests. Probably the lightest Kölsch I have tried in Cologne. Easily drinkable.

500 ml bottle. Pours a golden colour with a small head. Aroma is strong on lemon with some mild grainy notes. Flavour of grassy hops, some lemon, mild bready notes and a touch of graininess. Light bodied and lively carbonation. Sharp, bitter, lemon finish. Refreshing and mild. I like the lemon notes here.

At Gilden’s. Pale yellow with foamy thick head. Aroma is cereal and lemon. Taste is cereal and slight lemon tartness. A little too much carbonation. Highly quaffable. Above average.
