True Kölsch in deed ! Lightly Hopy, no bitterness , balanced, refreshing, ligth, tasty. Very good original Kölsch from Cologne. One of the best. Pigfoot (2268) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - OCT 10, 2004
Last bottle sampled from a generous gift of a friend who’d visited Koln on business trip.
Bright golden color, with a generous, fluffy ivory head, maintaining it’s ground for a respectable duration.
Aroma: delicate, even say sophisticated, with a significant, though subtle, brace of floral hops and soft fruity notes.
Nice texture, with a neat little play on the palate, light bodied and so smooth and easy to drink, with a dry, mellow fruitiness (think of pear, apple). Very tasteful hop presence, beautiful flavor, light, crisp, tasty.
A very approachable, highly satisfying ale, this. This ought to be a more well-known, more popular style of brew here in the states. A pity some ingenious American brewer can’t produce a year-round version, as the style outshines lagers in flavor, and may change some minds among those who feel that ales aren’t up their alley. (Goose Island’s Summertime comes closest, inn my experience.)
This is the kolsch I’ll judge all others against.

My rating refers to the Gilden you get from the tap.Fresh, bitter and dry, it gives you a real refreshment. The colour and frothy head is a pleasure for the eye. Very good to food. Quinten (1062) - zaandam, NETHERLANDS - MAR 1, 2008

I LOVE this beer. I had it at a Cafe in Koln and fell in love. A great crip taste with a sweet juicy quality. The most flavorful beer I’ve had. My Favorite from Germany.

At Gilden’s. Pale yellow with foamy thick head. Aroma is cereal and lemon. Taste is cereal and slight lemon tartness. A little too much carbonation. Highly quaffable. Above average. TheBeerLover (1027) - DC Metro Area, USA - JAN 28, 2006
Gilden Kolsch pours a beautiful, bright, light golden color with a bright white head and a good bit of carbonation. The nose on this beer is pleasing with herbal/flowery aromas of hop. This leads into a very light, pale malt palate, with a touch of estery fruit. Gilden Kolsch finishes with more gentle pale malt flavors then ends with just a touch of herbal hop bitterness.
A very refreshing, very drinkable kolsch bier that you could pound with impunity. This beer is milder in character and flavor than Sion, and Fruh, and seeing its Dom location, it is very popular with the tourists who come to Cologne. A beer I am sure is very popular during the Carnival season, when revelers drink this beer with a glass in each hand. And do they ever. My friend attended Carnival in Cologne in 2003, and told me he drank 14 glasses of kolsch in a 1/2 hour! I enjoyed Gilden for a few quick pops before it was off to bed, but I found the Sion much more to my liking. That being said, if you are in Cologne, it is well worth a try, as odds are you will find your way into Alt Im Dom, and you just can’t miss the clock tower of the building, and it sits directly across from the Dom. Bottle shared with McTapps. Pours in quite golden with medium head. Offers malt and some fruits in the aroma. Very nice one wuth that special something in the aftertaste. Good one. Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - APR 20, 2013
On tap at the brewery after a Doemens tour. Poured in a .2L glass over and over and over again. Crystal clear, pale golden colored body with an inch thick, creamy and frothy, white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is clean and very lightly sweetened with some soft fruit notes and touches of grass. Flavor is similar. Clean, lightly fruity and grassy with a soft pils malt backing. Finishes crisp and somewhat dry with a very light, clean bitterness before leaving a medium length aftertaste. Light body with a pleasant mouthfeel and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, an excellent, very fresh Kölsch. Clean, lightly bitter, and well balanced with a nice malt feel. This is a great example of the style. Theis (15152) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUL 18, 2013
