COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lambik until the age of about 6 months (on oak casks) is considered young (Jong in Dutch) and traditionally sold as such. The difference in flavor and palate between both Jong and Oud is substantial.

Please note the age of the sample you are reviewing when entering your rating. While many factors determine whether you have had "Jonge" or "Oude" Lambik, a general rule of thumb is to enter 1 year-old or older lambik under "Girardin Oude Lambik" and anything less than 6 months-old under "Girardin Jonge Lambik".

For those between 6 and 12 months of age, you should take in to consideration the character of the lambik. Samples presenting themselves as hazy/cloudy, with some head-formation and residual sugar should be entered as "Jonge Lambik", while those that are drier, higher in clarity and with little/no head formation should be entered as "Oude Lambik".

On tap at Mikkeller Bar. Cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma of grapefruit, apples, earth and barnyard. Flavor of grapefruit, earth, hay with a dry wooden finish. The sourness was mild. A refreshing beer.

Tap at Mikkeller Bar. Pours cloudy orange golden colored with a nice small and dense egg white head. Aromas of citrus fruit, mild spice, green apples, wood and berries. Mild and clean flavor with notes of apples, grapefruit and earth. Tasty and very drinkable beer.

Pours hazy amber color with small head. Aroma of sour fruits, grapes, nettle, barnyard notes and some rowan berries. Flavour of rowan berries, grapes, sour fruits, lemon and some yeast. Nice sour palate, dry fruity finish.

Pours reddish orange with a smooth foamy head. Aroma of tart fruits, malts and sourness. Taste of tart fruits, malts and mild sourness. Finish is fruity and slightly sour. Not as sour as most lambics, but still quite tasty and well balanced.

Pours a hazy orange colour with a chunky lacy head. Aroma of strong tart fruits, leather and strong lemon. Flavour of tart fruits, grapefruit, wood, leather and grapes. Medium bodied, high carbonation and a sharp citrusy finish with loads of grapefruit. Great.

Pours a clear orange with an off-white head and some lacings. Sweet and bitter with a medium tartness. Aromas of grass and grapefruit. Also some earthy yeast notes with some brett and hints of barnyard. Long, very bitter finish.

A "young" lambic. Hmmmm ... as is the case of most Girardin products, I have decidced on recent evaluation, diacetyl. I will attempt to avoid my natural disinclination toward diacetyl when evaluating this product, because, at least it wasn’t even close to being as nearly overpowering as it was in other beers.

Which is to say ... I rather liked this brew. Orange. No head. Fuinky aromas ... some -- nay, quite a bit of diacetyl -- tending toward acetylaldehyde (a definite,sour, green apple taste here). Tanins in the nose and taste -- particularly a "retronose". Leathery. Somewhat lemony, but I suspect that perception was an "influence" of nearby tasters. ;) Nice palate -- not cloying, semi-dry ... medium-full bodied. Whole = > sum o’ parts.

GBBF - 2006. Draught. Woody acidic aroma. Quite soft. Vinegar with edges of balsamic sweetness. Depths of lingering shifting flavour. Very pleasant.

Cask @ GBBF 2006. Golden coloured. Sour woody aroma. Oaky sourness to taste but enough residual sweetness.
