COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lambik until the age of about 6 months (on oak casks) is considered young (Jong in Dutch) and traditionally sold as such. The difference in flavor and palate between both Jong and Oud is substantial.

Please note the age of the sample you are reviewing when entering your rating. While many factors determine whether you have had "Jonge" or "Oude" Lambik, a general rule of thumb is to enter 1 year-old or older lambik under "Girardin Oude Lambik" and anything less than 6 months-old under "Girardin Jonge Lambik".

For those between 6 and 12 months of age, you should take in to consideration the character of the lambik. Samples presenting themselves as hazy/cloudy, with some head-formation and residual sugar should be entered as "Jonge Lambik", while those that are drier, higher in clarity and with little/no head formation should be entered as "Oude Lambik".

From the cask at GBBF, August 2006. Day 1, beer #21. Golden colour. Slight haze. Entirely flat. Some sweetness with moderate acidity although I wouldnt call it particularly sour. Woody and citric at the same time. Less farmyard than expected in the aroma. Not fully developed yet, but getting there.

From tap at MikkellerBAR. Pours clear and golden orange with a shortlived head. Aroma is acidic and mild apple fruity. Vague malty too. Mild acidic, citric and light fruity to a mild malt base. Acidic and dry finish, clean and crisp - not overly sour. Vague malt presence.

On tap at Mikkeller. Its a clear, flat, copper colored beer, looking lovely in a strange, rustic way. Theres some vinegar on the nose, mould, apricots and other fruits too. Its flat, dry and medium bodied, at first it doesnt feel very tart, but after some seconds it kicks in, and lasts until long after the last swallow. Barnyardy funky lemon flavor. A nice one indeed, I loved being able to drink it, but it was a bit disappointing in the flavor, almost fruity-sweet and sort of resembling lemonade. Would like some more though. 100508

Cask at Bier Circus. Bubbly white head, and a still coppery light orange color. Almost a sweetness in both the aroma and taste, lots of grapes, woody, and very vinous. No major carbonation, and not that dry of a finish, medium body. Touch sour, but not one I would say is very funky. Nice drinking, but I prefer older lambics I think.
