Draught at GABBF. Pours clear tawny with a medium, creamy beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is caramel and cookie malt, dates, figs, raisins, vanilla, alcohol and earthy hops. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, alcohol, dates, figs, light earthy hops and bitterness with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation. Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - DEC 20, 2014
On tap at Glacier brew house.
This was poured into a wine glass.
The appearance was a dark brown color with no head and no lacing.
The smell had a big fresh boozy sweet vanilla. A light sweet woody traces my nose nicely.
The taste copied the smell and added a big boozy punch on my taste buds in the aftertaste.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly good sipping quality about it. The carbonation was smooth as a good barleywine should.
Overall, this was a pretty good barleywine that I would have again. Gription79 (2886) - Bountiful, Utah, USA - DEC 8, 2013
Had on draft at the brewery. Bourbon, vanilla, warming, malty, fruity alcohol. Really enjoyed all of Glaciers big, warming, barrel aged beers. deaconmike (470) - Roswell, Georgia, USA - JUN 5, 2013
Sample at the Brewpub. Poured dark caramel. Malty sweetness in the nose, oak, and some vanilla. Taste is almost like a port - lots of dark fruit, raisin. Oak and caramel present as well. Full bodied. Sweetness was high, but not overbearing. Only had a sample, so not sure how is like that for a full pint. This was the 2011 version.

Oaky presence throughout toasted brown bread dark fruit more wood and tobacco residual sweetness. Smooth but bitey carb. SHIG (4956) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - DEC 30, 2012
Draft: Poured a chocolate brown with a thin off white head. Aroma is chocolate, caramel malts, and bourbon. Taste is similar with lots of chocolate (which worries me about a BW), caramel sugary malt, and vanilla bourbon burn. Travlr (24307) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - JAN 19, 2012
This is marketed as a different beer than the regular Big Woody, and the alcohol percentage is different, so I think it warrants a new entry. Light and clear brown color, scant white head. Aroma of vanilla. Taste is smooth vanilla and caramel. Nice. jethrodium (366) - Berkeley, California, USA - NOV 16, 2011
On tap at the Bistro Barrel Aged Beer Fest. Pours a clear copper with a small tan head that has good retention and leaves some light lacing on the glass. Aroma is vanilla, caramel, a bit of oak, some bourbon, a bit of light alcohol, and a little bit of cherry. The initial taste is sweet vanilla, followed by some oak, caramel, a little bit of nuttiness, and some bourbon. The finish is warm with alcohol. Medium bodied. Low carbonation. Enjoyable barley wine. Perhaps a tad too sweet, but very good. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 13, 2011
draft... my favorite barley wine at fobab... this should be the standard bearer for a barleywine that’s hoppy still but accented perfectly by barrels, try this
