10-Aug-04 (Draft: Glacier Brewhouse in Anchorage, AK) West coast IPA in that the bitterness dominates and has a strong floral and grapefruit flavor, but overall, this beer is fairly light in flavor and very bland for the style. The finish is thin and somewhat flavorless. The palate is clean, but thin and watery. Hoppy nose has an obvious grapefruit component. Golden color and fully cloudy. Off-white head has good size on the pour, gradually settling to a thin layer, leaving a fairly dense layer of lacing behind. (7, 4, 5, 3, 10, total 2.9)

21-Jul-05 (Draft: Mountain High Pizza Pie in Talkeetna, AK) Rerating this because, well, it’s the most interesting option on the very short beer menu for this place. Plus, I always like giving a beer a second chance to impress me. This IPA starts out with a very fresh, hoppy nose, so fresh it seems like the hops were just picked a hour ago. The flavor is hoppy. Yup, hoppy, with lots of grapefruit, but not too bitter. It’s also lightly sweet with the pale malts just getting lost in the shuffle. Medium bodied with a nice clean finish. Medium golden color. White head is tall on the pour and shows solid retention and fairly dense patchy lacing. Not blowing me away with greatness, but I’m certainly enjoying this beer more this time around.

Draft to pint at Resurrection Roadhouse in Seward, AK pour avg gold with moderate white head. Nose moderate dank, some fruit, light sweet malt. Taste light bitter up front, then muted flavors. Some weedy, cardboard, and light grainy malt late.

[Tap] Tried this at the brewpub in mid-September. Pours a very light shade of amber with a large white head. Hoppy aroma of pine sap, oranges and grapefruit zest. The hop profile in the flavor is a bit more subdued, but pleasant. Biscuit, floral hop notes, lemon in the taste. Bitter finish. Low carbontion made this seem a little flat. A good IPA that keeps its hoppiness in check.

Tap @ Glacier. Hazy golden/light amber with a small white head. Big citrus, floral hop aroma, light pine. Flavor is smooth hop bitterness with a very light malt presence. Medium to light body with average carbonation and a long dry finish. Excellent IPA, not sweet at all, the malt is there just to hold up the amble hop bitterness. Lots of flavor and aroma hops. Go get a growler of this stuff.

Faint on aroma, like a subtle blond ale. Clear bright gold, aggressive head. Soft, creamy body, bittering hops creep in the end gently. Seems like this keg may have been off when I look at these other ratings.

Solid beer. On tap at Double Musky, Girdwood, AK. Terrific honey floral aroma with warmth. Nice clear gold color. Good balance and clean finish. Classic West Coast IPA without venturing into hop bomb territory. No complaints.

On tap at Taphouse Grill in Seattle. Colour...clear amber with a moderately thick off white head. Nose...citrusy with a lean towards the grapefruity side. Palate...moderate CO2, a quick shot of grapefruit rind and pith and then a bit of malt that balances things out quite nicely. There’s some biscuit here and some marmalade as well. Generally a well balanced IPA.
