Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a hazy gold color with a large head. Good head retention and excellent lacing. Aroma is caramel, bread, light fruits and earthy, spicy hops. Taste is bread, butterscotch, banana and pear. The hops are earthy in the beginning and a lingering bitterness grows towards the end. Full bodied. This one really hit the spot for me.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2009 Cloudy orange with a big and lasting white head. Aroma has grainy malt, herbal hops and spice, especially some peppery notes I guess could be grains of paradise. Dry, fruity and hoppy flavour and quite bitter. Very elegant and drinkable beer.

bierkoning (13352) - La Tropica/Doarp, NETHERLANDS - DEC 2, 2005
6,9%, says the wrapped paper that serves as a label. 75 cl bottle. Blonde with a big foamy head. Hoppy, peppery aroma with a touch of vanilla. Hopbitter, grassy, oily flavor. A bit thin, but otherwise superbly balanced. A very pleasant surprise!

1pt, 9.4-oz bottle purchased at Coaltrain Wine and Liquor. Pours sparkling pale gold with a huge frothy-fizzy white head, mostly lasting, good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (straw, meal, hay), average hops (herbs, grass), average yeast (barnyard, earth) with notes of coriander and flowers. Light bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation and a slight bitter finish. Light sweetness and acidity, moderate bitterness; citrus and floral biting hop, earthy yeast and straw-hay malt, fragrant flavor.

750ml capped bottle. Massive gusher beware!!!! EXTREMELY ANNOYING. It immediately started gushing as I opened it and I poured a whole glass of it and set it down, it almost immediately stared gushing again, and I quickly had to pour another glass. The beer is nice golden hazy saison with a huge white head as expected. The head sticks forever never want to recede. The scent of this beer has spilled all over me and it is pretty good. It is fruity, spicy, peppery, with a nice large dosage of yeasty twang that adds some banana. The malt is there as well, though light with a kiss of hops. The fruits range from grapey to tropical to lemon citrus, a great smell on this one. The flavor follows the smell. It has a little bit of everyhting, and it is bright and springey. The hops make a slightly starker appearance in the taste. THe fruits, yeast, and malts all seem amplified as well. The spices are also there, layered underneath. It is 7.5% alcohol but doesn’t taste it, the alcohol is well hidden. This is very good Belgian craft, love it. Serving type: bottle

Rune (12777) - Tromsø, NORWAY - DEC 31, 2008
750ml bottle bought at GBBF 08 and enjoyed for more than one hour up north in Tromsø on a dark New Years Eve. The wrapped paper label contains the 6.9% ABV information, and that this is Speciaal Eindejaar Saison bottled in October 07. Pours a cloudy, golden body under an one-finger, fluffy head. Nice lacings on the glass. Fresh fruity smell with underlying spices. Rich and complex flavour of spiced, wooden dry fruits with notes of sappy oranges, wheat and herbs. Bittersweet endnotes with a discreet yeasty touch beneath. It gives, nonetheless, a rather candy sweet feeling in the mouth. Dry, oily texture. Well bodied [Rating no. 2033, and my last one in 2008].

Bottle, bougt @ Vinens Verden, Odense.
Pours lightly hazy golden with lots of bubbles reaching for the big, staying, frothy/creamy, white head. Aroma has lemons, crispy malts, light pepper and apple zest. High carbonation, fine dry mouthfeel. Flavour is truly magnificent. Sweet, but very crispy malts, pepper, coriander, flowers, roses, apple, light orange. Nice, peppery aftertaste. Lovely.
