Ritterguts Gose is a top-fermented, sourish and slightly salty-tasting ale that was first brewed in 1824. It is the beer specialty of Leipzig and the oldest still existing Gose brand in the world. Gose is an own, ancient style of beer that does not correspond to the German purity law. Even today, it is still brewed with an admixture of coriander and salt in the traditional way with the special historic Gose yeast in open fermentation. Its particular character our Gose gets thereby and by the additional lactate fermentation.
Brewed by Hartmannsdorf until 2014 (until 2007 @3.9%, then 4.2%), brewed by Reichenbrand in Chemnitz from 2015.
World Beer Awards London: World’s Best Gose 2013, Europe’s Best Gose 2014, World Beer Idol 2016: Gose Gold, World Beer Cup 2016: Bronze Medal

Hay aroma. Light yellow. Malty and faint straw boogie. Light carbonation. Nice delicate sourness. Tart. Not too much fruit hifi. Probably not my cup of beer.

Alluring tart aroma in a hazy yellow gold pour. Similarly enticing tart taste is perfectly balanced and hugely refreshing. A deserved benchmark of the style and likely responsible for its resurrection and current popularity.

500ml bottle. Clear golden orange with a thin ring of white foam. Flavors are fresh cereals, lemon and coriander with light salty notes. Good lactic acidity. Light body, moderate to good carbonation, slick texture.

Distinct aroma--salt is present immediately. Pours a pale yellow colour, unfiltered, very little head. Salt is present immediately on tip of tongue and coriander flavour opens up on the finish. Definitely not a refreshing beer on a hot day, and not really a taste I'm fond of though I appreciate it as an example of the Gose style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

1/2 liter Bottle racked 3 months ago - decants a lightly hazed pale straw colored ale with a puffy 3 finger cap which reduces quickly to a lasting surface lace. Aromas are complex but demure - tart, bready smells, coriander and some salt with a woodsy-musty-funky tone - magnificent! Soft mouth feel, light bodied, tart-salty-bready character. The Flavor is directly to style profile - dusty biscuity malts are met with salty-tart-spicy notes - these flavors balance without the detection of hops - finish is long dry, sour and lightly bitter riding on a corriander under tone. Absolutely refreshing, tart dry summer drink - world class - the benchmark other Gose brewers will be judged by.

Pours a clear golden with a thinner white head. The aroma is salty and tart, with floral hops, lemon, yeast, grape, and wheat. Wheat and lemon seem to be most prominent here. The taste begins tart, which then recedes into a salty finish. The tart’s level of intensity is actually pretty tame. There is an easy balance of wheat, apple, and grape flavors throughout, white lemon is found in the very salty aftertaste. Light in body, smooth in texture, softer in carbonation. This gose is more relaxed and easier to drink than others that I’ve had.

Bottled. Hazy yellow, small white head. The aroma has salt and caramel. The taste is sour with a good balance and the finish is sweet and tart.
