Light brown with small head. The aroma has caramel, maple syrup, toasted bread, peach and banana esters and some alcohol. Watery with delicate carbonation. Flavour is hiding well alcohol. Has several layers like sweet honey (overall moderately sweet), toasted bread delicate bitterness and finish has a long and annoying metal taste. Really bad metal. It’s a pity since this isn’t a totally bad beer. Although it has very little to do with nowadays Barley Wines. Sjohnh (928) - Coventry, West Midlands, ENGLAND - FEB 13, 2016
Why did I try this? It was there. Almost a barley wine - it has the red apple / pear nose and some of the taste. But too harsh and metal!if. redders1974 (1401) - Greater Manchester, ENGLAND - JAN 30, 2016

330ml can from Roman Food and Wine, Bow, London. As ’Gold Label Very Strong Special Beer’, 7.5% BB Aug 2015. Dark orange, sparkling, clear, small foamy white head. Aroma is McDonald’s apple pie, icing sugar, sugary malt syrup. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is imperial lager, booze, cracker malts, peppery spice and some metallic tang. It grew on me. Somewhere between a strong lager and a barley wine. Garrold (5176) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire, ENGLAND - FEB 23, 2015

330ml can from Nisa Wolverhampton City Centre. Had to change trains in Wolverhampton and fancied a beer. After searching 4 nearby off licenses this was the only beer I hadn’t tried yet. Felt so wrong buying it, but my curiousness got the better of me. Pours clear copper with a light haze and massive cream head. Initially quite light tasting and clean for the ABV, but still moderately sweet with a sticky finish. About half way through the taste got too cloying and metallic as it warmed and just found it too hard to finish. Best avoided. edsspoon (894) - Nottinghamshire, ENGLAND - JUN 11, 2014
Can - copper red with a big off white head which fills up the glass and then gradually fades to a ring - some thin lacing. Aroma of fruit, spice, smoke, soap and a touch of roast malt. Taste is malts and a hint of fruit, lightly spicy, metallic, slightly bitter. Sweet and sticky. It’s not very good. Rossbear (18) - Wendover, ENGLAND - DEC 10, 2013
What a classic, I felt like I was channeling my great grandfather as I sipped this wonderful little brew. A nice balance of sweet and bitterness is displayed and though they are prevalent I found the slight metallic tang part of the experience.

From a note 2011 or 2012. Bottle. Strong sweet nose, bread, grains, fruit (cherries, apricot, plum), caramel, alcohol, woody, clear deep amber, bubbly white head that vanishes quickly, bittersweet taste, vinous, oily texture, full-bodied, dry bittersweet finish with some caramel, alcohol… OwainTurner (425) - Leicester, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - SEP 28, 2013
Can from supermarket. Pours a lovely amber with some gas, dense head which quickly diminishes. Atone of fruits, berry and alcohol. Tastes malts and slight fruit, with alcohol presence. Lovely oil Mouthfeel. Not bad at all.
