Pretty well balanced IPA. Not getting a big smoke smell or flavor like some have reported. Then again, I skipped the glass and and guzzling straight off the pipe. That said, my appearance rating is for the sweet looking can, which basically looks like Southern California going up in flames. Is this really 8%? So far, I’ve liked all the offerings from these folks. This is extremely quaffable. Weird bite at the end, which is pretty tasty. Dry finish.

"the low ibu and the relatively low abv (for a double) are irrelevant upon first sniffing and then quaffing this fine brew. Sweet, aromatic smokiness comes through a little at first, then in great er measure, in the nose. A blast of floral citrus and pine follows. Appearance was hazy orangish gold with diminishing creamy off white 1 finger head, rings of lacing. Aromas are malt forward with hint of smoke, then some citrus fruits and pine come to play. Taste are sweet pale, crystal malt upfront, then grapefruit, orange, pine and lemon with touch of smoke on the back. Can brew with extreme bitterness. Sat in cooler at a bachelorette party...have had good IPAs. But tis is not one...may be on beach but not here....and bad vibes when my parents house burned down during fire storms...no good

A double IPA for a fortnight and a day #14...Pretty much all these beers have the copper/orange appearance thing with lots of clarity and average head. Aroma was lacking in the hop department, imparted more sweetness than hoppiness.
Same with the taste, mild hopping, sweetness stood out more, came off as an English ipa. Mild citrus flavor, very mild for XXIPA baraciisch (3469) - California, USA - FEB 8, 2014

Not really smokey at all but enjoyable basic ipa no aroma. No head. Easy drinking.

A steady pour into my Sierra Nevada IPA glass produces a two finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a rich copper amber hue that shows a clear, golden hue when held up to the light. The aroma has an up front fruitiness to it that leans towards ripe tangelo, guava, and lychee that is backed by nutty, toasted malt notes and a light, smooth phenolic note that really doesn’t seem like smoke. As the beer warms up it starts to smell a bit more like smoke
Light smoky notes up front (with a rounded rich, savory smokiness) yields to bright hop notes in the middle and then phenolic, slightly plastic like smokiness in the finish as well as a light, but lingering bitterness in the finish. Up front the smokiness accentuates a savory, nutty, toasted pale malt character. Hop notes of grapefruit zest, ripe tangerine zest, perhaps a touch of lychee, pine like woody notes, and the last is accentuated by a savory smoky woodiness that comes out as the beer warms up; there is almost a woody, oak like note that.
Quite interesting, I was actually quite excited to try this, though didn’t quite know how this would work. Luckily the smoke character is subtle enough that it really doesn’t clash with the hop character. Extra points for being the first beer I have tried on a concept I have been thinking about for years.
