I was fortunate enough to get one of the last two litre Riggers from Fresh Choice Parklands.
Deep brown in colour with an off-white head that thinned on top of the beer in short order. Aromas tend toward roasty, toasty and chocolate rather than the nuttiness I was expecting. The flavour dwelt on the chocolate aspect with lovely subtle carbonation. This was good sessionable ale and tasty to boot. Not the most complex of beers but charming and eminently drinkable.
I need to declare an interest in this style of beer: I don’t believe enough brown ales are made in New Zealand. We need to make them because in the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, Brown ale was made to be drunk.
