Draft. A hazy amber beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet and very malty, which gives it notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet with quite a lot of alcohol and malt as well as a touch of whiskey. fly (1486) - austin, Tejas, Texas, USA - JAN 3, 2008
I dig the name, it’s purty and fulfills what the label promises - "massive malt complexity". The malt does lean to the sweet side asis its nature, but being a holiday brew I’m pleased that spices were not added but were some appropriate hops to be added I would enjoy this even more and possibly even consider to be awesome. Good brew as it is. Ratman197 (15208) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - JAN 2, 2008
Bottle poured a clear dark copper with a minimal lingering amber head. Aromas of cocoa, carmel, toasted malt, dark fruit, light smoke and light spice. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, cocoa, dates, spice and a hint of smoke with a smooth malty finish. Angeloregon (2055) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 17, 2007
Poured a hazy deep amber body with a small whitish head. No matter the time of year, you can likely find a few bottles of the GVB Tannen Bomb kicking around at a NW specialty brew store. TB is a dark, robust, yet creamy strong ale with firm hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and other winter spices. Sweet with fruitiness. This beer is a PNW classic.

Bottle... Poured a hazy ruby color with an off-white head. Smell off floral malt and wine. Very barley wine-ish, really sweet with smoked malt and chalky hops
to balance. Caramel malt finish. Very smooth.

Very nice beer here. The bartender tried to tell me that it was a xmas beer brewed with spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. I didn’t taste any of those... all the better. Big malty beer here with a sweet palate. Alcohol is not at all apparent in the taste/smell. Body is extremely smooth and creamy. Very nice. greenhorn1 (850) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - NOV 21, 2007
12 oz bottle. Pours a murky reddish brown, small head. Malty aroma with notes of dark fruit. Flavor is heavy on the malt side with a pinch of cherries and a hint of smokiness. There is a hop bitterness that is noticeable in the finish. I am dissapointed how apparent the alcohol is, just to strong and makes the whole brew a bit off balanced. Still a decent beer. bb (9697) - Alamo, California, USA - SEP 4, 2007
Draft. Rich amber beer with an off-white head. Malty, low spice, low fruit aroma. Cherry flavor with malt backing.. Cherry lingers with nice malt complexity. Medium body. Nice. I don’t know where the cherry came from, but it’s there. kp (10881) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - SEP 1, 2007

clear dark brown, wispy tan aroma that can be stirred up but quickly fades away, sweat sock aroma, thin body, slightly sweet light caramel flavor, strange sourness leads to a bitter finish,
Aroma: 2/10; Appearance: 5/10; Flavor: 3/10; Palate: 4/10; Overall: 6/20
Very attractive pour. Strong caramel malt aroma. Slightly hazy reddish amber color. Frothy beige head that might lace, if it ever starts to collapse. Starts with sweet malt, accompanied by stone fruit and hop. This is more about malt than hop, and that’s probably appropriate for this style. It stays the lighter side of sticky, and it disquises the alcohol very well. The finish tends toward well balanced, and a very pleasant bitter (along with a bit of sweet fruit) remains in the mouth. Good one.
