Delicious beer. Medium American hop aroma. Elegant amber color with light head. Some raisin aroma. Tastes of american grapefruit hops with a little grape in the finish. Spritsy carbonation with a medium full body. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - DEC 9, 2012
Sampler Flight pour on tap at the Clybourn brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a richer deep amber pour, gentle haze, richer glow throughout is striking, some orange and sunset elements. Cakey offwhite head sits atop, laces well and sticks around as a firm layer. Aromas offer a bit of dankness, dry citrusy and floral hops, touches of white grape, earth, and grass. Some biscuit and pale malts, grain and dough. The Galaxy comes through, takes over the Citra. Some sweetness, crisp malts. Touches of estery fruit, Belgian yeast elements intertwine in the brew, some spice and pear, apple and gentle banana. Initial is medium bitterness, a wallop up front with citrus, florals, dry hoppy bitterness hits the palate up front. Bitter, much more than anticipated with lots of earth, florals, and grass. Mellow fruit elements start to grow into the middle. Citrusy grapefruit, lemon, and rind. Some fruity ester elements, bread, and dough in the middle. Hops support and overwhelm any sort of sweet fruit and malt elements even in the middle for me. Backend shows dryness, florals and earth, grapefruit and some white grape, weeds. Dryness comes back, some touches of sticky malts, bread, dough mix with fruit, hop flavors, medium bitterness into that finish. A solid beer that takes me on a wild ride. Front end really is enjoyable tailing into a more managable and a bit of a forgettable backend. Galaxy element completely transforms this from King. holdenn (2116) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 26, 2012
On tap at Clybourn. Pours a bright orange with a thin head. So much Belgian yeast in that nose. Young Belgian yeast that needs a month to move from phenol spice to well balanced spice. Some tropical fruits juicy with a solid bitter finish. A little sweet, but decent. drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 24, 2012
Draft, pours amber gold with white head. Aroma is great big citra and galaxy, mangos, lemons, phenolic yeast, peppery. Flavors are juicy tangerines, tropical fruits, caramel, plasticy, peppery finish. An otherwise great beer ruined needlessly by crystal. Crystal malt in hoppy beers is over! deyholla (11597) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - NOV 23, 2012
On tap at the Clyborn location. Pours a clear orange gold with a tan head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a lot of tangerine with a slight bitterness and a hint of sweet grains. Flavor has more bitter tangerine with other citrus and a grain backbone and a hint of Belgian yeast.
