On tap in the sampler. Rich chocolate aroma of bakers chocolate and tootsie rolls with a little coffee. The flavors wear off a bit. The sweetness becomes overbearing and a little cloying. It doesn’t seem very Baltic porter to me. But I guess it’s close enough.

On tap at the Clybourn brewpub. Pours a black body with a finger-width, creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is cocoa, roasts, molasses, caramel, and dark fruits. Very smooth with a bit of a nutty toast. Flavor is similar. Roasty and rich chocolates with a nice caramel, molasses, and dark fruit note. Some nuts and a light coffee before this finishes very smooth and pretty dry with a nice roast and malt sweetness. Lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, medium-full body and a soft, medium-light carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid Baltic Porter. Rich and smooth with a balanced roast backing. Good one. Pour is dark brown with a deep tan head that fades into a ring. Aroma is on the mellow side - coffee, chocolate, roasted biscuits. Flavor is is nutty, fruity, malty, slightly bitter finish. Sampled from the tap at the Clyborn location. Pours a clear deep chestnut brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a strong roasted malts with an underlying coffee note. Draft at Clybourn. Poured a deep black/brown with a tan head. The nose was caramel, char and a hint of butter. Faint butterscotch as well. On tasting, too much cocoa going on here, creamy and a bit slick. Again, some butterscotch notes. This doesn’t seem quite right. Too sweet and nowhere near clean enough for style. Sampler Flight pour on tap at the Clybourn brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a deeper blackish pour, opaque dark middle wit some glowing copper ruby edges. A frothy offwhite head dies to a mellow film and laces ok. Aromas are telltale Baltic Porter, cocoa and carmelized malts, black malt, cocoa, gentle coffee. Smoothed out elements, gentle heat, a kiss of dark fruit. Big cocoa and bakers chocolate dustings. Some caramel, gentle toast. Dryness. Initial is smooth, medium bodied perhaps a bit more full with rich cocoa, bakers chocolate. Thicker dark malts hold the palate, touches of plum and black cherry. Toast, caramel, and toffee. Very smooth and dark, nutty dark fruit tootsie roll elements, with just a kiss of heat. Big smooth beer, the Baltic Porter feel really shows up. Smoothed out, sweet and sticky into the backend. Tootsie Rolls really is the theme here. It thins out into the backend, some roast and toast, smoot sweeter malts. Touches of heat, lingering cocoa, coffee, gentle dark fruit and Tootsie Rolls. Quality Baltic, perhaps a touch sweet at times. More of a dessert offering for me..
