On tap in a tulip at the clybourn brewpub. Pours clear slightly reddish amber. Flavor is sweet with a fair amount of assorted fruit flavors. Rich complex flavor but not very heavy on the hops (which I like). This is a Tripel done the way I like it so I’m a big fan of this one, but some others may find it too sweet. Flight on tap at the Clybourn Brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a decent hazed golden hue with touches of deeper orange glowing into the body. A frothy whitish head sits atop and dies to a ring, laces ok overall. Aromas are touches of popcorn and bread dough, light dry earthy hopping mixes with a touch of honey and apple fruit essence. Yeasty spice picks up more as it warms, giving a spicy life to it. Initial is medium bodied, picking up some sweetness into the middle. A dryness and gentle spice lingers from front to finish, offering a mellow sweet honey and bready middle. Touches of apples grow, some gentle pear, cereal grains, dough, and dry floral and earthy hopping. Spice and sweetness lingering into the finish, a touch creamy almost, the sweetness isn’t offensive, but does make it’s presence known. A touch cidery, the finish is spicy and fruity, a bit slick, as the sweetness gives the beer some body overall. Not bad, but just not really my style unless it ups the hopping levels. I’m just not a Tripel guy.. But as this one stands compared to others, it isn’t bad.
